4-New life
It’s been a year since we moved here and I can’t wait to be done with school.
Things have been better when it comes to my abilities. Peter and Mark are older than me but we have become close and they constantly have me do different things with my powers to test my limits and control.
My issue here is the other students…since my cousins are a year older they’re no longer in school so I’m always stuck by myself during school hours.
Word got out about me not being born with witch powers, so they treat me as if I have some highly contagious disease.
There are days that I don’t care about the stares and whispers, but most of the time it pisses me off and I get the urge to burn the hair off their heads, but of course, I have to control myself and my emotions….they should consider themselves lucky that I’m not a b***h.
My powers have been getting stronger and stronger since they first made an appearance and it made my cousins wonder why I’m so powerful because my powers weren’t around since birth. They and my parents began researching our family tree and spoke with my cousin's parents. We found out that I am the most powerful witch in this entire town because my bloodline combination went back to the original witches.
What sucks is that I have to keep this information to myself because everyone might think that I only came here to take over this town; which is not the case…so here I am stuck in the situation of having to hide who I am and being deemed a freak and an outcast at school. I don’t understand why people can be such assholes.
My text alert knocks me out of my thoughts and I smile when I see it’s my cousin Peter.
*****Text Convo*****
Peter - hey shortcake come hang out.
Me - okay where do you want to meet up?
Peter - meet us at the ice cream shop.
Me - us? Is Mark going? tell him to come pick me up on the way
Peter - Mark isn’t coming, I have a surprise guest for you to meet.
Me - um okay, I’ll be there soon.
*****End of text convo*****
I get off my bed, get ready then send my parents a text telling them I’ll be with Peter then I leave the house.
When I get to the ice cream shop I spot Peter sitting by the back then I sit in the booth across from him.
“Hey, what’s or who is the surprise?” I ask curiously.
“It’s my girlfriend, we have been in a long-distance relationship for a while but her family is finally back in town and I want both of you to meet” he responds excitedly.
“Great, another person to treat me like an outcast” I state sarcastically.
“Oh come on Sol, don’t think like that, I promise you she’s not like that…Watch you’ll see” he responds confidently.
Suddenly the door opens and we both look to see if it’s his girlfriend. A big smile appears on the girl’s and Peter’s face when their eyes meet.
“That’s her, I’ll be back,” he says while standing up.
She’s a pretty girl with short curly hair. I thought he would go for the supermodel type, but she doesn’t meet the requirements for what society considers a model. She’s short and curvy but she’s not what doctors would consider overweight or obese.
I’ll admit they’re cute together and they look happy. I wouldn’t mind having that with someone, but being labeled the town outcast has made it impossible. Guys don’t dare to talk to me for too long because they don’t want anyone to turn on them. It’s triggering but I’m okay with being single, especially after that failed relationship I had last year. The best decision I ever made was to not have s*x with that asshole.
I smile as they come back to the table to sit down across from me and Peter begins introductions right away: “This is my girlfriend Jeanie, Jeanie this is my cousin Marisol but we call her Sol.”
“Hey… is Sol a nickname only family calls you or can I call you that also?” Jeanie asks politely.
Aww, that’s sweet of her, no one ever asked me that before: “You can call me anything you like as long as it’s nothing disrespectful” I say while laughing.
“Yay!... why would I want to call you something disrespectful though? That’s just a shitty thing to do.”
“You’d be surprised how rude people are especially in school.”
“Oh no…are students still asshole here?… I thought with time they would become nicer but I guess not... They like to act snotty and entitled here, it’s so ridiculous” she states in an annoyed tone.
“Ooh, I like you…you’re definitely not like everyone else” I state happily.
Laughing she replies: “Consider me your new best friend.”
“Thank you, I could use all the friends I can get…I can’t just keep hanging out with my cousins.”
“Hey!, what’s wrong with hanging out with us?” replies Peter.
“Nothing, it’s just… you know, you guys aren’t girls, so I can’t talk to you about the same things I can talk to a female friend about and you guys are family…there’s just some things you don’t need to hear about.”
Jeanie laughs at the expression of disgust on Peter’s face.
“So how old are you Jeanie?” I ask curiously.
“I’m your age, tomorrow is my first day back at school here, so we can hang out in school, oooh maybe we can even go to school together sometimes” she responds excitedly.
“Yeah, that sounds great.”
We spent a few minutes talking and laughing about random things until my attention drifts out of our conversation when the cutest guy I had ever seen walks into the ice cream shop. The guy looks around then stares at our table and smiles. Is he smiling at me? I think before he starts walking towards our booth. I follow his every movement with my eyes.
“Hey, Marisol!” States Jeanie as she places her hand in mine which makes my attention go back to her and Pete.
“Huh, I’m sorry, what did you say?” I ask embarrassedly.
“I said, can you please slide over so my cousin can sit down?” She states as she looks at me in amusement.
“Oh…yeah, I’m sorry” I respond as I scoot to the side without looking at him.
“Thanks,” he says as he sits down then he puts his hand out to me while saying: “My name is Caspian.”
I shyly take his hand and return his smile: “I’m Marisol.”
“That’s a pretty name” he responds.
“Thank you” I respond as heat slowly reddens my cheeks because he hasn’t released my hand while we just stare at each other.
Suddenly Peter clears his throat and Jeanie giggles.
“So who exactly are you Caspian?” Asks Peter.
Caspian releases my hand and sits straight with a serious expression while looking at Peter: “What do you mean?… I’m Jeanie’s cousin.”
“Yes, I know your ties to Jeanie, but who are you? Or rather what are you? Why are you here? Especially now after all of this time? I thought your family had business elsewhere” states Peter.
“Peter this isn’t the time or place to talk about this” states Jeanie.
“You’re right Jeanie, it’s time for Sol and I to go, I’ll call you later” states Peter as he slides out of the booth and kisses Jeanie goodbye.
I look from Caspian to Jeanie then at a triggered Peter who is staring daggers at Caspian.
“Let’s go now Sol, we got things to do” Peter states in an annoyed voice.
“We do?” I ask in confusion.
“Yes, we do” he responds in a tone that lets me know there’s something more going on here and I’ll need to find out what just happened.
“Excuse me.”
“Of course” Caspian replies as he slides out of the booth so I can stand.
“Thank you, it was nice to meet you Caspian…. Jeanie, I’ll see you at school on Monday?”
“The pleasure was all mine and you can call me Cas.”
“Yeah Sol, I’ll meet you at school on Monday.”
“Okay bye” I respond as I follow Peter outside.
“What’s going on Peter?”
“Not here Sol, I’ll tell you at your parents’ place, but first I have to speak to my parents and get Mark….do you need a ride home?”
“Yeah, that would be great…I don’t feel like walking back” I respond.
“Okay get in” responds Peter as he unlocks the doors to his car.
