Katherine's smile disappeared. "What?" "Serena has been invited to court." Katherine stared at him. "No." James blinked. "I haven't even explained—" "Didn't we just finished this discussion seconds ago? I'm not selling my daughter to any lord or prince." "The King—" "The King did not fight any war." James's mouth twitched. Katherine pointed a finger at him. "He sat on his throne while everyone else bled. He only stayed there because we did. I fought disguised as a knight." "That you did." "And you remember what happened." "I remember everything." Katherine shook her head. "Then you understand why I don't trust royal invitations." "I do." James looked toward the fire. "But this isn't necessarily about marriage." Katherine gave him a skeptical look. "With the King, everything is about something." James couldn't argue with that. After a moment, Katherine sighed. "And if he is interested in Serena?" "Then he will have to speak to her father first." Katherine smiled faintly. "And her mother." Of course", James laughed. "After all it's your fault she's so beautiful anyway. If she had my looks none of this would be happening." Katherine stared at him for a moment before bursting into laughter. "Go to sleep." "Alone?"
