Ethan led Maya back to Greystone Manor under the cover of night. They stood before the grand fireplace in the main hall. He gestured toward the bricks, his fingers trembling.
"It’s behind here," he said. "Sealed away for a reason."
Maya’s hands shook as she pried the loose bricks free. Dust billowed into the air, and behind the crumbling stone, she found it—a rusted, ornate key.
The moment she touched it, the house reacted. The temperature dropped. The whispers turned into screams. The walls trembled as a guttural voice bellowed through the halls.
"YOU CANNOT LEAVE."
A shadowy figure surged from the darkness—the entity known only as Mother. Her hollow eyes burned with malice, her skeletal fingers reaching for Maya.
Ethan grabbed her arm. "Run!"
They sprinted toward the attic, the walls warping around them. The entity shrieked, the very foundation of the house shaking. As they reached the attic, Maya saw it—a door she hadn’t noticed before, covered in the same glowing symbols from the book.
With no time to hesitate, she thrust the key into the lock. The symbols pulsed violently as the door creaked open. A blinding light poured through.
"Go!" Ethan shouted, shoving her forward.
Maya stumbled inside just as the door slammed shut behind her. The screams faded. The house was gone.
