Chapter Fifteen II: Slice Of Life In The Barrack

2414 Words
"Throughout the Anuicia Kingdom and the other existing surrounding kingdoms, there are stable main guilds throughout. The six guilds that came into fame were the adventurer guild, mercenary guild, assassin guild, merchant guild, craftsman guild, and the alchemy guild. The adventurer guild is mainly involved in giving out quests. Those quests could be anything that ranges from daily life necessity to procuring materials or ingredients, monster subjection, acting as guides or guards for merchants, explorations, and anything to help the livelihood of the people within the kingdoms. Those over the age of ten could start as rookie adventurers. Before being able to pass through the rite of passage, a rookie adventurer can not become a full-fledged adventurer. Therefore, a rookie has limited credibility and can not take part in certain quest difficulties. The mercenary guild is the same as its name said. Any large-scale wars and conflicts where additional arms are needed would hire mercenaries within the mercenary guild. Bandits' subjection, frontier skirmishes, noble conflicts, and whatnot are the main dishes of being a mercenary. Those at the age of ten could start by becoming a sellsword before gaining enough fame to become a credible mercenary. Of course, the adventurer and mercenary guild do have something in common with which anyone of any class could join. The assassin guild is mainly involved in the assassination. However, that is just the main trope. Other quests within the assassin guild were investigated, selling information, and other secretive or selective quests. Those at the age of then could start within the assassin guild if and only if they were to pass a certainly required trail. If they were to pass, they would still be limited to investigation, information gathering, stealing, and other smaller-scale things. Thieves, former bandits, former pirates, and assassins were quite common within the assassin guild. The merchant guild only requires one talent and that is trading. Other than those requirements, there are barely any other requirements. Anyone at the age of ten could start being a peddler in the merchants' guild and those with experience would be elected as credible merchants. Out of all of the guilds, the merchant values trusts (contracts), credibility, connections, benefits, and profits the most. Otherwise, every member of the merchant guild would do its own thing. The craftsmen's guild only needed those who could craft things. The guilds mainly consist of those that could make or craft things. Those at the age of ten could start as a workman within the guild, learning all sorts of basic crafting or inner work before choosing the path that they think is best for them. Likewise, the craftsmen's guild does occasionally take on a large bulk of orders from almost all sorts of guilds. The craftsmen's guild also provides individual freedom and needs only those that volunteer to work together before splitting the profits depending on their work. The alchemy guild mainly creates healing potions and provides them. Those at the age of ten could start as a mentee before passing the alchemy trail. After successfully passing the alchemy trail, the said mentee would become a true alchemist. Out of all of the other five main guilds, the alchemy guild has strict requirements in the classes that were needed to join the alchemy guild." -A written passage in the Introduction to Guilds. --- Over the years, he has been struggling to find a way to promote it. It was not until now that he realized that the reason why he was not able to be promoted at all was that he had to fulfill certain requirements. He had coincidentally found this out while reading through some old books within the library. Luckily, he found this out early on, within a few months of training. Otherwise, he would have gone crazy doing some training that did not affect him whatsoever. For a class like the militia, he had to train at least one year or reach a specific weapon mastery rank before being able to change his class into a soldier. At least that was what was said in the book. A peddler must have more than a few hundred or so successful trades before being able to change class to a merchant. While an apprentice has to successfully learn and fully master some sort of skill before being able to change class to a mage. There were also some other crucial requirements that he had found and that was to have at least three options in total for a class change. It was visually obvious to tell how many options a person has. He summoned his crest above his left hand and saw that it had slight changes to it. At the center was the egg-sized crest with the militia class's initial engraving. At first, the blank crest was just the size of a quail's egg, but as his level increased. The size of the crest begins to increase as well. The crest was within the very middle, while there was a striking perfect square to contain the crest within. Vaguely, he could feel why it was a square instead of a triangle. He had at first seen just a line growing out about two inches from the crest to a point. It was just a line at first. Later on, he noticed that there was another line of the same length as the first growing out to the opposite side of the first line. It was only during the last few months that he finally got the third line stretching outward while the three lines faced different directions. The three lines are equally distant from each other. At this point, the three lines formed into a triangle connecting the three points and it was no longer just lines. The crest has been transformed into a triangle plate with the circular crest visually in the middle. At first, he had wanted to be promoted right away when his crest formed a triangle. He was afraid that if he suddenly changed class, his low-profile policy would be seen through. So, he endured the last few remaining months without changing his class. As a result, his status screen remains the same. The first point or top-left corner of the square reads Soldier. This was the very first option that he got when getting into the militia class. He made a bold guess as to why the soldier was the first option that he got and it might be due to his lance weapon mastery exceeding rank D. The second top-right corner, third left-bottom corner, and fourth right-bottom corner are lanceman, armored knight, and knight respectively. Ever since finding out that class needed to fulfill certain kinds of requirements, he did nothing much except stay low-key until it was time for him to go back home. He did not want any unnecessary problems or any delays on the way back. Coincidentally, he did not expect to gain the fourth option at this point at all. The five had waited long enough for him and he felt quite bad to delay the five any longer. Most importantly, he had delayed their class change for the last few months now. He had done so that the five would be able to make use of the last five levels and become stronger. Even though the five do not understand why he did so. He was glad that his persuasion skills were quite good. Outside the door, he, along with the five, were immediately greeted by the sight of three long hallways along with some lingering trainees. To the right was the canteen where they went to grab food, to the left was where they could go get their gratulation badge, and to the center was the pathway that was deemed to be the closest way to where all of the training grounds were held. Because the barracks were quite big, there were at least four canteens within the surroundings. The hallways were quite a bazaar and had many misleading hallways and intersections. Unless somebody takes time to slowly explore the maze-like barracks, it would be quite confusing for first-timers. That was why he was quite lost when he had asked for the library and coincidentally found Kevin for directions. Nothing major about that. However, he did indeed make a good friend. On another topic, they had gone through a few twists and turns around the building. They went along the hallway by the wall and along the wall were huge windows made of glass. The windows were about one and a half as tall as he is. He had felt that it was good to have some sunlight throughout the building when the long hallways in the center had practically no lights except the dim light from the candles. Then they turned down the left where there was a huge staircase waiting for them. On the opposite side was also another similar staircase as well. The staircase was made of rough blocks of huge rocks around the size of a human’s head. They quickly went down the staircase and out of the huge gate that was just right beside the staircase. The gate was made out of wood that was properly oiled and a few metal trinkets that made it visually imposing. On the gate was a picture that was elaborately made to look like a mage holding a magic tome. The magic tome was open and the mage’s other hands were wide open trying to cast the magic spell within the page. Intricately, the magic runes were curved using metals. The gate of the frame was also inlaid with beautifully crafted pieces of metal. Out through the gate, they came across the open air and there were barely any trainees that bothered to come over to the library most of the time. They closed the huge wooden gate that was crafted with metal. The outside picture was completely different from the inner picture. The picture showed a cavalry knight on top of a huge horse. The different thing about the cavalry knight was that it was covered completely in a huge chunk of metal. Even so, the horse below did not seem to feel any weight from the cavalry knight on top. The cavalry knight also holds onto a glamorous sword at the ready in a charging pose. Behind the cavalry knight’s back were another lance and an ax. It was quite a sight since cavalry knights were only known for their use of swords and lances. As for the ax, he does not have any way to infer what kind of class a cavalry knight would look like. Since the group of five moved on, he too also follows from behind. [1: Kevin - Kevin came from a common family within the capital. He aspires to something greater and different than his father. From a young age, he had been trained by his father, who was a former mercenary. With the direction directed by his father, he came to the capital to achieve what he had set out for. He was later known as one of Kabridge Capital's Iron Sheffields after surviving the turbulence. He was found defending a village during the greater turbulence. He liked Claudia from the magic department within the military sector. His fateful love rival was Plucker. [2: Plucker - Plucker came from a common family within the capital. His father was a soldier and is still in service. He, too, wanted to become the same as his father and went through formal training at a very young age. Due to slight mishaps in the future's turbulence, he had fallen in battle but was barely able to keep his bloodline ongoing due to his unclear one-night stand within a tavern bar in the Kalbridge Capital. He liked Claudia from the magic department within the military sector. His fateful love rival was Kevin.] [3: Claudia - Claudia Romsfire was Claudia's full name. She was the youngest sibling within the main branch of the Romsfire family line. Due to a slightly misaligned arranged marriage, she escapes under the cover of the night and becomes a mage apprentice. She was later seen to have come back to the Romsfire's main branch during the turbulence, but due to differences in opinion. She left the Romsfire's main branch for good after the turbulence and became an independent sage who majors in fire magic. She had also secretly returned to the Kabridge Capital after the turbulence to look for clues that had any lead on that small figure in her mind. It was only at the start of the greater turbulence did she find a similar figure, but by then it was too late.] [4: Sam - Sam was abandoned at the orphanage at birth and he grew up without knowing who his parents were. However, he has not lost heart because of these setbacks. He works hard with effort and manages to become one of the cavalry knights within the Kalbridge Capital. After a series of minor and major battles, he was one of the survivors of the turbulent time and promoted to a paladin. Over the years, later on, he had to gear up and fight against the greater turbulence. He had missed the teaching of the same figure in the greater turbulence. Towards the ending of the greater turbulence, he has fallen in the final battle against the darkness.] [5: Miller - Miller was neither abandoned at birth nor was Miller his true name. His true name was Rock and he was the firstborn twin. He grew up, smartly, he could recognize that his other twin was the weaker of the two. Knowingly, he chose to run away from home at the innocent age of five, thinking that his other twin would be able to nourish him more. He also changed his name to Miller later down the line, which he thought had a close resemblance to his original name, Rock. He roamed the ragged streets until he was finally admitted into the orphanage at the age of eight. He fought alongside Sam during the turbulence and became a great knight. However, in the passing greater turbulence, his best friend that he considered family had fallen in battle. It was only later down the line, when he already had his twin, that he finally found his other twin brother. He did what he had thought was the right thing and carefully raised his twin child.]
