"I'll miss you," Adelisa giggled. Darius rubbed the flour out of his eyes, "You better! I'll be away at my grandparent's house for one entire month!" A maid rounded the corner into the kitchen and backtracked with the most horrified face when she saw the state it was in. Adelisa shook her head at her flour covered bestfriend, "One month isn't that long, Darius. Especially when we just spent most of seventh grade on opposite ends of the country." He sighed, all trace of amusement melting off his face, "I just don't want you to forget me, Bambi." She hopped off the counter and threw her arms around him. As sudden as her embrace was it ended and she smacked him upside the head.
"Ow!" "Don't be stupid! You're my bestfriend I couldn't forget you even if I wanted to!" He scowled at her while rubbing his head, "You're a bully." She stuck her tongue out at him before continuing to mis the pourly prepared cupcake icing. "Stop whining and help me! We only have eighteen more hours till your flight leaves and we still have one more batch of cupcakes to make!" Having decided on a course of action, the two thirteen year olds got to work.
Sixteen hours before Darius's flight they'd cleaned up and settled down in the home theatre at Adelisa's house watching all their favourite Disney movies one more time before he leaves. Twelve hours before his flight they had eaten all of the cupcakes they'd baked. Nine hours before his flight they'd finally managed to stop hurling their guts out after eating the abnormal amount of cupcakes, which in hind sight they knew would end horribly. Six hours before his flight they'd just sat in her backyard talking about all the things they'd do when he got back. Everything in their list ranged from scuba diving to having a Hunger Games movie marathon.
Four hours before his flight his parents arrived to pick him up and they were hugging on her porch. "I'm going to miss you so, so, so, so, so much!"Adelisa whispered trying not to cry. Darius laughed while hugging her tighter," Not one day ago you were talking me that one month isn't that long! " She pinched his side and snickered when he let out a squeal. Darius shoved her, " Bully, "he grumbled unamusedly." Adelisa laughed, and pulled him into another hug, "I love you, Honey," She said blinking back tears. "I love you more, Bambi." She heard him mutter something else but it was too muffled to decipher.
That was the last time they hugged, the last time he called her Bambi. The last time he said he loved her.
