Chapter 5:Ever After, Still Writing

208 Words
We didn’t get a fairytale ending. We got something better: a real one. Eli stayed. He found a new job nearby—less glamorous, more grounded. We moved into a tiny apartment with creaky floors and windows that whistled when it rained. I wrote, he cooked, and together we built a rhythm that was imperfect but entirely ours. We learned each other’s bad moods, bad habits, and boundaries. We fought. We apologized. We grew. Love didn’t stay effortless—but it stayed worth it. We traveled. We held hands through foreign streets. We made mistakes. We made memories. Some mornings, I wake up before him and just watch. Not in a movie kind of way, but in a quiet awe. Because I still can’t believe he’s mine. Because I still remember the girl who sat in that café, writing alone, and how her world changed with a single smile. We go back to that café sometimes. He still calls me his “chai latte girl.” I still pretend to be annoyed, even though I love it. This is our story. It’s not finished. Maybe it never will be. But I know this much: Every day, I fall in love with him again. And that’s enough for me.
