Ivan had successfully dealt with the disturbance and also found himself a guard. He was quite happy and proud of his wisdom.
I did spend some gold coins, but problems that can be solved with money are not real problems. Money will come and go. I shouldn’t be preoccupied with money but why does my heart ache after I spend it? That $6,000 would have bought a lot of good food for a long time.
Ivan clamped his hand against his chest. Tears of sadness fell down his cheeks.
“Your Excellency, why are you crying? This is not a man’s doing!” Iron Man said to Ivan in a disapproving tone of voice. The crowd had dispersed, but Iron Man stayed by Ivan’s side since the system automatically assigned him to him when he accepted Ivan’s offer. If he refused to take Ivan’s orders or betrayed him, Iron Man would be immediately erased by the system.
“You’re nosey,” Ivan retorted, displeased. Then he opened the Guard System where all Iron Man’s Stats were displayed. There were few excellent characters in such a small town, so Iron Man’s overall ability was ranked D. Ivan was just thankful that he wasn’t ranked E, the bottom level. He was a Warrior and in terms of ability, a level-D guard was the equivalent to two thirds of an ordinary player. However, Ivan could elevate his guard to higher levels if he had the appropriate materials. Moreover, he could also replace the original guard with a more competent, subdued NPC.
“The first priority is to sell the state potions,” thought Ivan. Since all the horse in Leaf Town had been wiped out in the fighting, Ivan and Iron Man had to ride two surviving donkeys to Ginkgo Village. When Ivan saw the burly man sit on such a tiny donkey, he was very amused.
Ginkgo Village was not far from Leaf Town. Though the donkeys were slower than horses, they were still faster than humans. Ivan was back in Ginkgo Village in less than 3 hours. Interestingly enough, he thought he would never go back but he was there to make money.
Ivan went to the village center. As he was about to put up a stall to sell the state potions, a familiar voice wafted to Ivan’s ears.
“Lad, you look worried. Is it transfer that displeases you? I can provide you with the top-rated occupation on Blissing Continent. Would you like it?”
Ivan could tell just by voice that it was the chief of Ginkgo Village, who looked celestial but was actually an old farmer. Despite his cordial voice, Ivan had no hesitation in unmasking him. “Oh, come on. You’re referring to being a great farmer? Digging, forking manure, that type of thing?”
The chief was mortified for being seen through so quickly, his face reddened, “So, it is you! I’m so unhappy about only having one apprentice. How could you have the heart to question me like that?” he said angrily.
“I’m just stopping you from misleading the younger generations. Who is willing to be a farmer nowadays, especially in a game? You did manage to get an apprentice though? Really? That is quite surprising. Are they a simpleton?”
Ivan said without concern for the chief’s feelings.
“Watch your mouth. I hate to disappoint you, but my apprentice is extraordinarily gifted and bound to make remarkable achievements in the future. Don’t look down upon farmers, brat,” the chief boasted.
“Oh well, it’s none of my business. Everyone has the freedom to decide their own occupation.”
“Oh yes, how is Mr. Bowen?” asked Ivan.
The chief sighed, “He passed away when the news of Leaf Town’s ruin reached Ginkgo Village.”
Mr. Bowen had a close relationship with Fiona. Perhaps he’s become a ghost and gone to avenge Fiona.
The chief observed that Ivan had already reached Level 14. “Why do you return to Ginkgo Village now that your level is so high?” he asked in confusion.
An idea crossed Ivan’s mind. He answered with a wicked grin, “Since I went to Loda and bought some supplies there, I’d love to make a contribution to Ginkgo Village.”
“Oh, what are they? Let me have a look.” The chief’s eyes twinkled with curiosity.
Ivan showed him the state potions in Storage Ring.
“These… these are good things. What about making a deal with me?” The chief laughed maliciously.
Ivan could see the dollar signs in his eyes, “A deal?”.
The chief gave a mysterious smile and whispered in Ivan’s ear. Not expecting him to be so smart, Ivan was surprised and agreed.
“Hehe!”
Both of them smirked.
…
Before long, Ivan and the village chief hid in a narrow alley next to the chemist shop. The chief handed four thousand, five hundred coins to Ivan, “Haha, I didn’t expect these potions would sell so well. The shopkeeper old Henry offered five thousand gold coins. Thank you for letting me earn so much money!”
“Thank you for selling them so quickly. The price is was very fair!” Ivan took the gold coins joyfully.
The deal was that the village chief would sell them to the chemist in exchange for a 10% commission. Ivan agreed without hesitation because he had a plan of his own.
The potions were worth one thousand gold coins and if I was to sell them on my own, it would take forever. Also, most people in the town are novices who don’t have much in the way of purchasing power so I may not get a lot. It’s better to sell them all at once and the chief has been in charge for so long, he is bound to get the job done.
To his surprise, the village chief offered to help and sold them all in less than ten minutes. The five thousand gold coins were equal to $100,000. Ivan was thrilled and even with the 10% the chief took he was still left with four thousand, five hundred coins.
Money comes so quickly haha.
“It has been a pleasure to work with you.” Ivan thanked the chief again.
“Can we continue to do this? What about I go to Loda once more, buy all the potions there and come back here to sell?”
“No, this is a one-time deal.” The chief shook his head.
“Why?” Ivan didn’t understand.
“Ginkgo Village is very isolated. Business was very bad in the past and there was hardly any revenue. Yet, later thousands of players flooded here, bringing a lot of capital and boosting the economy. Thus, old Henry finally made some money. This is why he was able to spend 5000 gold coins on your state potions. He’s not stupid. By asking around he’ll easily know the potions come from Loda. Can’t he purchase the potions himself after he sells this batch? How will you sell to him then?” explained the chief.
Ivan nodded and began to see the old man in a different light. He couldn’t figure out if he was a farmer or an economist.
The NPCs in this game are all too clever!
