Chapter 50 The Powerful Occupation of Peasant

“Hi, Jim! It is nice to see you again,” Ivan got up from the ground and greeted him.   “Ivan? Why are you here?” Jim questioned. He put down his hoe and laughed.   “You know him?” Left-handed love was the one who was confused now.   Why does this guy always know someone wherever he goes?   Ivan replied with a nod and then said to Jim, “You do have the look of a peasant, Jim.”   At hearing that, Jim laughed again, “This game is really good. It gives me the opportunity to experience the pleasure of seeding, planting, and harvesting.”   “Ha, ha, ha!” Ivan and Left-handed love gave a dry laugh.   “Oh yeah! People said there is an orchard here and the fruits on it can enhance a player’s attributes. However, we can’t find it. Do you know where it is?” asked Ivan.   “That was my orchard, but all the fruits were stolen by inconsiderate players before they ripened. That kind of people really piss me off,” Jim answered angrily.   “What? The orchard was yours?” Ivan exclaimed.   “Yeah. This game is so amazing. Do you know what? I sowed the seeds the day before yesterday. By the next day at noon, they grew into fruit trees and by the third day, they started to bear fruit! The fruit would have been fully grown and had an excellent texture and flavor if they had been on the tree for even another half a day. What a pity!” Jim said with sadness.   “Do you still any fruit left? Could I have a look?” Ivan blurted out.   Jim rummaged around in his backpack then pulled out an apple-sized fruit to hand to Ivan, “This is the only one left. Feel free to have a taste.”   Ivan took it and as he was about to put it into his mouth, he saw its attributes and decided not to eat it.   Singular Fruit (Average) Category: Strength improvement Effect: Increases Strength by 4% in a minute Requires Level 1 Can be superimposed on other kinds of Singular Fruit   “Holy smoke!” exclaimed Ivan. The attributes were fantastic. He thought of the state potions he resold for a profit, which didn’t permit effect superimposition. Although the attribute increases of these fruits were 1% less than those of the state potions, the fruits could be used together with different types of potions, such as ones for strength, agility, health, and defense. It would improve all the attributes in one go and the effect would be outstanding. The lesser state potions alone could not produce such an effect.   The majority of the game players had already attained ten to twenty levels and were eager to get out of the Novice Village for a new adventure. There would be a significant demand for all types of potions, and if he put them on the market, selling them would be easy.   With his brilliant idea in mind, Ivan asked Jim, “Is the fruit yield high? Are there fruits for different attributes?”   “Let’s talk inside the house. It’s so hot!” Jim said and took two young men to a thatched cottage on the east side of the forest.   They sat down and Jim boiled water to make tea. He handed one to Ivan and one to Left-handLove, then said, “Have a taste.”   Ivan didn’t question Jim, he picked up the mug and drank the tea. He was surprised to find that it had a sweet taste and was very fragrant. He thought it was even better than most of the tea he had in real life but he was really surprised to see that change to his attribute. After finishing the last drop of his tea, Ivan exclaimed, “Oh my goodness! It can increase Health?”   Left-handed love also noticed the green “+10” figures rising from Ivan’s head.   “It seems our Priest is going to lose his job, haha,” he joked.   Ivan took no notice of his joke and continued to ask Jim, “Was this also planted by you?”   Jim nodded with a proud smile.   Ivan was shocked, it had never occurred to Ivan that the occupation of Peasant was so powerful. Peasants in Rivalry were not like real-life farmers who toiled in the blazing sun all day but were still poor. The peasants in the game were like wizards. A Level 2 novice peasant was already able to produce fruit that could enhance attributes as well as tea that could restore health. As Jim attained more levels and skills, his prospects would be invaluable.   Ivan regretted that he had not accepted the apprentice offer. The chief of Ginkgo Village had provided him with this opportunity, but at that time he had thought the occupation was below him and that the chief was making fun of him. However, the more Ivan played the game, the more he realized that most things in the game didn’t make sense. Peasant was not an average occupation at all, it was rather incredible. With Jim’s help though, Ivan could get what he needed most- money.   “Ahem.” A cough snapped Ivan out of his deep thoughts.   “Ivan, you admire me?” Jim laughed with pride.   “You amaze me, believe you me,” Ivan said, looking at him with admiration.   Jim looked even more delighted and continued, “Let’s talk about what you asked earlier. All of the seeds were given to me by the old chief of Gingo Village and he is my master now. They catered to all kinds of attributes and grew in abundance, one tree could yield more than one hundred pieces of fruit. As I said before, the process of growth was quick and the fruit was partially ripe within three days.”   “Since the growth was quicker than normal, so was the fertilization, irrigation, weeding, and insect removal. I did a count and found that I had to water the plants ten times a day. If I didn’t do it in time, the trees would instantly die. Just watering them was demanding, let alone the weeding and insect removal. I am not bragging, but people without patience cannot handle this job,” Jim continued.   Before Ivan or Left-handed love could ask more, Jim said, “The worst part is, one tree yields over one hundred fruits, but as you see I only have this one left. Protecting the fruit was most difficult. The orchard is in the east, close to a forest that is inhabited by monkeys. The monkeys moved quickly and stole the fruit before it was ripe. It was impossible to stop them because the orchard was unattended while I was offline. They took most of the fruit and the players stole the rest.”   Oh? Monkeys came to steal the fruits when Jim was offline? But how can a human game for three days and three nights? Three full days in the game was equal to one full day in real life. Iron Man is the answer! He is a system character that can stay online all of the time. He isn’t much help anyway because of his low level but he could guard the orchard.   All of a sudden, Ivan saw his plan coming together. He said to Jim with a mysterious tone, “Jim, as you know, my dad had an accident. I have spent a lot of money to save him but now I owe it to others. Are you willing to help me? We can work together to make money.”   “Oh? How?” Jim immediately showed interest.   “I have a way to prevent the fruits in your orchard from being stolen by monkeys. With such a high fruit yield and zero loss of fruit, even after you have some for yourself, you will still have many left. What about selling them? I will be responsible for the protection and sale of the fruit. After the money is earned, you will get 60% and I will get 40%... no wait, you will get 70% and I will get 30%. What do you think?” Ivan proposed.   Jim appreciated that Ivan wasn’t even twenty years old and he bravely took on responsibility for his family when his father was hurt. Few boys would do that, so Jim was impressed and generously said, “We will split the money fifty-fifty. I only need money for seeds. If you agree, I will accept your offer.”   “Yes! Thank you! It is settled then,” Ivan jumped up out of his chair with joy.
