Chapter 45 Thank You All

1372 Words
The auction began at 21:00.   Ivan selected the auction function from the system menu. There were quite a few items up for auction, most of which were ordinary equipment or material that weren’t very expensive. The Guild Token was at the top of the list though.   The bidding started at one hundred gold coins, but it jumped to three hundred gold coins in the blink of an eye. The Swordplay Group that was ranked in the US’s top ten made a bid first.   The auction had just begun. As Left-handedlove had hoped, two seconds later the price rose to five hundred gold coins.   “Humph! This Guild Token should belong to the Sovereign. Once I heard there was a Guild Token up for auction, I immediately bought twenty thousand gold coins. No one can compete with me!” SovereignKing, Ivan’s old enemy, sneered at another end of the game. He commented after bidding the five hundred gold coins.   “How boring to bid in one hundred coin increments!” A long-haired handsome man complained and increased the price. His name was ChicWalker and he bid two thousand gold coins.   “Wow, he is rich!” Ivan was thrilled to see the price go up by fifteen hundred coins.   “Scramble for it! The more fiercely you compete, the happier I am.” Ivan looked at the rising price in delight.   “Interesting. The Walker Group that seldom goes after fame and fortune is also involved. But unlucky for them, the Maniac Group is bound to be the first guild in Rivalry!” Then the bidder ID changed into Mad and the price became three thousand gold coins.   With an extra one thousand gold coins, it was equal to $18,000. Even Left-handedLove raised an eyebrow at the amount. Neither he nor Ivan thought the Guild Token would be so sought-after.   “s**t! The Guild Token is being auctioned already? It was all because a sexy model begged me to f**k her one more time that I nearly missed the action. I’ll punish her after I get the token.” A fat man joined in the auction with an evil grin.   The price jumped to six thousand gold coins. Every major group wanted to be the first one to establish a guild. They could not be truly regarded as an organization unless they established their own guild. Only then could they officially recruit new guild members as well as enjoy privileges such as Guild Hunting, Guild Building and Guild Player King.   Dozens of groups participated in the auction. Some below-average groups had been eliminated after about five minutes because the bid was over ten thousand gold coins. The price continued to increase by one thousand coin increments and so only high ranked, powerful groups were able to participate.   Each rise made Ivan’s heart thump with excitement. In his eyes, the gold coins weren’t a string of numbers in the game. They represented the hope for his father’s well-being, making them appear more beautiful and splendid.   “s**t!” Someone commented about the intense competition.   SovereignKing bid thirteen thousand gold coins with a spiteful expression on his face, thinking that there wouldn’t be more bids. However, he was wrong, there was no shortage of wealthy players.   14000 15000 17000   Surprisingly, the ID shown after the last bid was SwordPrince.   There was a pause in bids after the price surged to seventeen hundred gold coins.   Suddenly a World Announcement turned up.   An eye-catching line floated in the air.   SwordPrince, are you tired of life? Son of a b***h. I’ll hack you to death if you continue to bid it higher and get in my way! –SoverignBully   “f**k! Reckless! Stupid!” SovereignKing fumed, not over the five hundred gold coins spent on the World Announcement, but with his idiotic brother. What he said was a challenge to the Swordplay Group.     “Haha, we’re going to see some fun when this is over.” Though they were foes, Ivan felt almost sorry for SovereignKing. SovereignWolf was such a jackass who would screw everything up.   Five minutes later, World Announcement appeared again.   Good, SovereignKing, I remember you. –SwordPrince   20000   The auction price displayed after the Guild Token jumped again by three thousand gold coins, the total was twenty thousand.   “Damn!” SovereignKing banged his fist on the ground in a rage, but he only had twenty thousand gold coins in his backpack and could not bid any higher. He was so anxious that he impulsively ordered his people to check to see if there were gold coins or sale in Good-deal Exchange.   After a minute, another World Announcement appeared on the screen.   SovereignKing, that is all you can afford? You are really a cocky buffoon. --SwordPrince   “Ahhhhh, I am so pissed!” SovereignKing flew into a rage. It was the first time he had been insulted so horribly in a game. But the good news was that one of his subordinates got another five thousand gold coins for him. He didn’t even hesitate, he increased his bid.     The auction was no longer simply a scramble for the Guild Token, because the bidding seemed to more about personal feelings. The cost was way more than what its actual value should be.   “No more. No!” SovereignKing glared at the price, eagerly hoping it would stop rising since he put everything he had on his last bid. However, SwordPrince was not going to give up.     26000   A scarlet figure appeared in front SovereignKing and shattered his dreams. He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth, “SwordPrince, you have made an enemy!”   A minute went by, then three, and then five and the price remained unchanged.   System & World Announcement: Congratulations! Player SwordPrince has successfully won the first Guild Token in the auction.   It was followed by two more World Announcements.   To SovereignKing, SovereignWolf: Ho ho, you had better watch out. —SwordPrince   We’ll see! —SovereignKing   A stream of World Announcements drifted across the sky, signaling the end of the auction and the birth of the first guild in Rivalry.   “Yes! SwordPrince, I love you!” Ivan and Left-handedLove cheered and high-fived each other. Ivan opened his backpack to find nearly twenty-six thousand gold coins inside. They lost one hundred and thirty coins for the 5% tax deduction.   Ivan quickly did the math, the number of coins would be $465,660. He couldn’t believe that such a tiny item in the game would be equal to such a large sum of money.   “Mate, it’s time to call our teammates and split the money,” Ivan said to Left-handedLove.   Half an hour later, the five teammates that collaborated to kill Skullshatterer gathered in a café on the east side of Loda.   Ivan put over five thousand gold coins, everyone’s equal cut, in the transaction box between Leo and him, and clicked “Yes” to transfer them.   To his surprise, instead of accepting them Leo directly canceled the transaction.   “Leo?” Ivan showed a puzzled look on his face.   “Ivan, your father is still in the hospital. Take my cut to help him,” Leo smiled.   “Take mine, too.” Claire agreed.   Left-handedLove and FallenAngel heard them and asked in a tone of concern, “What happened to your father? He’s ill?”   “Well, he fell from the third floor and hasn’t woken up yet. The doctor said he may not,” Ivan sighed, discouraged.   “Take my cut too!” Left-handedLove patted Ivan’s shoulder.   “But…”   “No need to say anymore as long as you know that I am your friend. You can tell me if you need more.” Left-handedLove put his forefinger on Ivan’s lips to stop his refusal.   “I don’t want my cut, either.” FallenAngel laughed heartily, her eyes as bright as stars.   “Thank you. Thank you all so much.” Ivan bowed low to them. His eyes glistened with tears.
