Chapter 28Neon-green skeleton faces, with sharp fangs, levitated in the dark, haunted hallway. They let out a blood-curdling howl and discharged a round of paintballs at the dumbstruck students.
High-pitched screams and terrified shrieks broke the silence as paintballs whizzed through the darkness and pummeled a few unlucky students in the arms and legs.
“GET DOWN!” Austin ordered as he rolled behind one of the steel drum containers that lined the rugged walls.
Taisia slid on her stomach when a paintball zipped above her head, and propped up on her elbows. She fired her weapon at the grotesque masks and wounded one of the opponents in the knee.
“Retreat!” A deep, husky voice called out at the end of the hallway and the macabre creatures vanished into the darkness.
