Chapter 1 The Reply

284 Words
I had just gotten home from work and finished dinner when a notification popped up on my phone: "The 'Mr. Mystery' you follow has posted a new work." Mr. Mystery, a thirst-trap creator, was my absolute favorite influencer. When I started following him, his movements were incredibly awkward, yet they still made my heart race. Eventually, I found myself waiting anxiously for his new posts every single day, leaving wildly supportive comments to cheer him on. Today was no exception. I left my usual enthusiastic comment. [Oh my god, this man makes me want to commit a crime. I hereby declare him my future groom! Don't you dare run away from me!] Right after the text, I attached a hilariously suggestive emoji. To my absolute shock, he actually replied. [You said it, not me. Future wife, I am definitely not running away.] I clutched my phone and rolled around on my bed in sheer excitement. But when I left another comment, he went silent. Just as I was still floating on cloud nine, my phone suddenly rang. "Hey Mom, what's up?" "Allie, sweetheart, if you have some free time, you need to talk to that young man I introduced you to last time. He really likes you." "Mom, I am only 25. I don't want to get married yet. I'm hanging up!" Every time my mom called, she would aggressively pitch this blind-date prospect to me. Her enthusiasm made it seem like the guy was paying her advertising fees. She kept telling me he was young, handsome, rich, owned his own company, and was absolutely smitten with me. But honestly, if someone like that actually liked me, would I still be single right now?
