THERON POV Ami hadn’t answered her phone. Neither had Merritt. Any other day, that wouldn’t have stirred the dread now churning in my gut but this wasn’t just any situation. Danger had been hanging in the air long before I picked up the phone. Swallowing a wave of panic, I forced my breath to slow and dialed Romilly Ami’s friend. No answer. That’s when the dread detonated. “s**t,” I cursed, slamming my foot on the gas. The traffic wasn’t at its worst, not post-rush hour, but Manhattan streets were never truly clear. I weaved through lanes like a madman, my thoughts spiraling.
