Chapter 0001 Inside a nicely furnished office sat a man in a white lab-coat, a grim look worn on his face as he inspected a piece of paper held in his hand. He looked up after a while, his lips perched into a thin line. His eyes went around to locate a scrawny looking woman in her late twenties, petite and pale. Emma Tonks batted her lashes, anticipating the doctor’s report on her condition as she adjusted herself on the seat across the doctor’s table. Lately she’s been unhealthy, and unlike herself. So she’s decided to come examine herself medically. “When last did you go for checkups?” Ian Hales, the doctor started, adjusting his position on the seat as he pushed forward a little bit. Emma has no idea where he’s going with the question, but regardless, reigns for an answer. “I don’t know,” she muttered after a few seconds. Though each and every time she’d feel down and would want to go for a checkup, her fiancée, Nathan Kors would always dismiss the idea. “I’m sorry to inform you about this, but your test results are recognizing a cancer in your blood. Leukemia to be precise, and it’s growing rapidly,” Ian informed mildly, pity flashing through his orbs. “Huh?” Emma stared with eyes widened, the doctor’s words smacking her hard like a cold palm to the face. “W-What do you mean? What cancer?” She gulped, her voice coated with disbelief, “I think I heard you wrong, what are you talking about?” Her heart thumped faster than she could control, sweats seeped into her palms as she tried to retain a grip of herself. “Your results are diagnosing you with leukemia, a cancer poisonous to your blood-forming tissues and has grown beyond an early stage.” The man’s rephrased response slammed once more into her hearing, pushing her into a brief oblivion that repeatedly chanted the doctor’s words. Without uttering any single words, Emma staggered off the chair she was seated in. The world surrounding her instantly became shallow and less significant. “Ma’am!” Ian called, quite stunned by her reaction. But she ignored and proceeded to the room’s exit. Tears shadowed Emma’s eyes as she pushed her feet forward and out of the doctor’s office, their whole conversation just now replaying over and over again in her head. She hadn’t moved much distance when a liquid trickled down her nose, her index raised touching the liquid to see the reddish fluid that matted down around her lips. She recalled the first time this happened and she’d immediately wanted to check out her personal physician, Ian Hales. However, her fiancée waved it off, claiming it’s due to her stress. Her doctor would even call her to remind her of her monthly checkups that she’s missed, and criticize her for taking her health too nominal. Her fiancée would suggest she take some days off, and let him handle her duties at her company. Emma Tonks, one of Veile’s City's youngest billionaires, wouldn't agree. Running a broad and successful fashion company amidst thousands of rivals, she remained at the top and is considered a prodigy. She retained such influence by being diligent and hardworking. Her grandness often attracts men more than her sparkling beauty, coupled with her wealth. Men flocks around her, wanting to court her for their own personal gains- was her firm belief. She’s had suitors who outright expressed his desire to marry and help her maintain her wealth as though she announced that she needed help with such or anything, and many others like that. All this was until she met Nathan Kors five years ago, the man she had come to fall helplessly in love with and set to marry tomorrow. He was a genuine fellow who isn’t after her wealth. Emma who was sick and tired of men only wanting her for her money relocated to the suburbs of Veile’s City, there she simulated a new life that has her out as a commoner. While under the guise of a commoner, she had met with Nathan, and dated him for three full years before she came clean about her identity and her wealth. She wanted to be sure he sheltered nothing but true feelings towards her, and indeed he does. Nathan proved his genuine love by not caring about her identity, and just loved her the more. He was always there for her, to care, to support, to do anything at all. He’s seen how her company was a lot of work for her, and would offer to run things for her in bid to ease her stress. Many times, Emma has declined his offer because she thought it wouldn’t be ideal, but later on would give in because after all he can be trusted. Emma would enroll her fiancé as her company’s CEO and for the sake of her love for him would become a full house wife after their marriage. She never had to doubt Nathan because ever since he stepped in, he’s only done a better job. Though better job at executing her ideas because he passed every step he took for the company through Emma before he enacted. This went on for a year and a half, and Emma has never loved her fiancé less. She was eager to take his name tomorrow because truly she’s found everything she’s ever wanted in a man. He’s supportive, dedicated, and ever caring. What more could she possibly want or need? Nothing. And now that it was time for her to truly begin her forever with this man, fate stepped in with its negative course. The thought of how she was going to break this news to Nathan was the only thing that pulsed through Emma’s brain as she rode for Nathan’s office. He doesn’t need to know right away, but she’s currently in need of his solace. Emma arrived at the company after a short while. Her steps were quick and pace hurried as she strolled into the elevator. She got to the highest floor where Nathan’s office is and observed that his secretary wasn’t at her desk, but didn’t think much about it because she could easily be carrying out a task. Just that there won’t be anyone to announce her arrival, and she’d have to knock. Emma was about to place a knock on the door when filthy sounds itched at her hearing. She merged herself with the door so her ears could have a better deciphering of the sounds. Moans that sounded cryptic filtered into her hearing, and she wasted no more seconds before punching the door open. Her heart skipped a beat as her eyes snapped close and lips began to tremble. She’s already caught the scene she never thought she’d ever see. But chances are her eyes are playing tricks on her. “Please tell me I’m in the wrong office.” Emma’s voice broke out in shambles as uncontrollable tears began to stream freely down her cheeks. She forced her eyes apart, and true to what she refused to believe. There he was, her husband-to-be standing next to his secretary, both marred with a guilty expression as they looked everywhere but her face. “Why?” Was the one word Emma could muster as she felt the string of her heart compress, producing an inexplicable sensation of pain.
