Chapter 0002 The night was lonely and cold, and so was Emma. Lifelessly rooted to the grounds of her bathroom as the warm flurry of her shower pelted lightly against her skin, a brief ease in her affliction. She rubbed on her face, red and swollen. Emma spent a few more minutes before she left the shower, wrapped in a towel as she stepped into her fancy bedroom designed to the taste of wealth and opulence. Golden lights illuminated the room, and her gloomy aura dispersed harshly into the atmosphere as she walked to her bedside table. She dragged open the safe underneath and a used pregnancy test kit came into view. Emma broke into fresh tears uncontrollably as she witnessed the gift she had guarded to give her fiancé tomorrow night after their wedding. After she’s waited so many years for the one, she thought she'd gotten it. Was this really the right fate meant for her? Not only was her life now on a terminal notice, whatever was left of her has been shattered ever since she walked into her husband’s office this afternoon. Emma sank down to the bed beside her, weeping profusely without any concern to how the fluids stains the clean sheet she’s curled herself up on. “How could he do this to me? I loved him? We loved each other?” Emma found herself speaking to the kit she held tightly in her palm. Her lips quivered as she anticipated a response from the kit. She stared with betrayal, regret, and sorrow expressed clearly in her eyes. Emma looked up at her ceiling, reeling into the dark thoughts playing in her mental cage. Amusement mixed into the emotions painted on her face. She couldn’t believe that it was all a lie, that five years of her life was a lie with nothing to account for. She wondered when it began. When he began to love her secretary instead of her, when he decided that she was no longer worth it. And yet he was going to marry her. Emma was going to include his name in her will, she was going to write him as a full partner to her assets. Or was this his plan all along that she just never knew. Many thoughts raided Emma’s brain to why Nathan would betray her. She loved him, exceptionally, faithfully, wholeheartedly! She gave him her all, and was ready to spend the rest of her life with him! Emma rolled over to the side where she kept her phone as she picked it up. She dialed up her physician as she began to dry her face off the tears all over her cheeks. “I don’t want to die.” was the first sentence Emma could muster as Doctor Ian picked her call. “Or at least not soon. I’m pregnant and I need to be alive to take care of my child when the baby gets here. You need to help me, Ian.” At this point, it sounded like a cry for help. “Of course Ma’am. I’ll begin the procedure to set you up for chemotherapy, and for the rest of the treatment. You need to come for daily checkups so it wouldn’t allow the little baby you have growing inside of you. Is that fine with you?” Ian responded calmly from his line. “Yes of course. Thank you, and I think we’ve grown familiar enough for you to refer to me as my name. It’s Emma, I’ll see you tomorrow.” The next morning dawned on a weary Emma as she hurried herself to freshen up for the day. She barely got any sleep last night because she couldn’t stop herself from sulking about her latest misery. Nathan didn’t bother to come home last night. Emma doesn’t know if he’s racked with guilt, or if he has nothing more to worry about now that his secret is out and he could spend better time with his secret girlfriend. Emma doesn’t want to think much about him, because the more she does the more she’s tempted to cry herself back into the deepest and darkest depths of humanity. Today was supposed to be their wedding day. And it’s left to him to deal with the invited guests about why the event will no longer take place. Emma prepared a quick breakfast for herself before she set out for the day. Her first stop was at the hospital with her personal doctor Ian who began her daily treatment for her. She spent half of her day at the hospital before she was announced done and permitted to continue with her day. It’s over. Emma has accepted it. A five year journey ruined for no reason. She was going to throw him out of her company as well as her house, then send him back to the slum where she met and picked him from. As Emma settled into her car to hit motion, her phone began to buzz. Out of curiosity, she reached into her bag to retrieve the phone only to see she missed a series of calls and texts. It was from the wedding guests, and it looks like her fiancé was present and didn’t think the wedding was off. A call came in at that moment, and it was Nathan finally. Emma didn’t think twice before picking, “Nice of you to finally call me. Now why is our marriage not canceled?” “Baby please. I made a mistake, you have to forgive me. You can’t just destroy what we have over one stupid mistake. Please don’t do this, you’ll regret this later on if I allow you to make this decision.” Emma couldn’t believe her ears, was she hearing right or exactly what was this useless thing of a man trying to prove on her phone. “Call off the wedding!” “No, I won’t. I thought you would have forgiven me by now because I haven't called since yesterday. To give you space. But again you can’t let this one small mistake break us apart. I’m not going to call off this wedding, and I’ll be waiting for you to come here and marry me like we’ve planned and dreamt off. When you refuse to show, people will know it’s you who left me on stand on our wedding day and the one who broke us-“ Emma abruptly hung up. Beyond amused with the words sparring out of his mouth. Could he even hear himself? Suddenly an idea sparked in Emma’s head as interest filled into her eyes. “He wants a wedding? I’ll give him a wedding he’ll never forget,” she said to herself determinedly before reeling her car into motion.
