Chapter 0005
So far Emma Tonks still believes that she’s stuck in some nightmare, and that an alarm would soon ring so loud she’d jerk back to her reality.
One where her fiancé never betrayed her, or stabbed her this hard from the back to the front. The one where he loved her and continues to do so heartily.
Cause what could she have done to him to deserve this? She loved him. She was faithful to him, dedicated and thoroughly invested. Yet, her years of love were rewarded with his lust for more.
Emma’s first order of business was cleaning out Nathan’s trails in her business.
He might be a shitty fiancé or a man, but he was an awesome businessman. One thing he never did was go wild with Emma’s company, destroying decades of sweat and war.
Her company has only done better like it would if it was her running the business.
But still, Emma needed to clear Nathan’s roots. Since she currently had no secretary, it was her own job to hit up her board members and announce an urgent meeting scheduled for tomorrow morning.
Emma had to ring her Staff manager up, telling her to send up any substitutes available at the moment to work as her secretary.
The office landline began to ring, and without a secretary available to pick the call. Emma had no choice than to walk over and take the call.
“Tonk’s office. Good afternoon,”
“Yeah. I’m calling on behalf of my client, Becky Essos. We’d like to withdraw from our contract with your company. If tomorrow is alright with you, we’d like to meet up for the dissolution of our agreement.” The lawyer on the phone kept his tone professional and it was only polite for Emma to do the same.
And that was just the beginning of related phone calls. Many more clients would reach out to achieve the same goal, until Emma allowed herself to ask the last client who was so bold to deliver the news herself why she was dropping her company?
“Well, for starters it looks like your image is in a bit of a situation here, and your image affects that of your company. So I’m sorry, but I do not want-“
“So, you’re saying you believed the man over me? You believed it was me who wronged him? So, you all really thought I was the villain?” Emma couldn’t let her land before she intercepted, trying her very best to maintain her calmness and keep to her professional conduct.
“No, not that. I just don’t want myself involved in this with you.”
“And the best way to do that is to drop me as your brand?” Emma retorted in a sharp tone.
“I’m very sorry if my decision-“
“Don’t be sorry. I understand your concerns, it affects me currently, but I promise you all. I’ll get over it, and I’ll get above it,” Emma cut into her statement for the second time, feeling a dash of power course through her at the end of her statement.
She ended the call, and decided that was going to be the last call she’d take to hear from clients dropping her as their brands.
Like she promised, she’ll get over and above this. It’s just a matter of time. This will be behind her sooner than later. It’s a phase.
However, it might be time for her to deal with how her reputation is starting to affect her company’s image.
Emma was about to ring her Staff manager once more so she could instruct her to send in her head of media relations when her phone began to ring.
The caller was unknown, and Emma felt reluctant to pick. She answered the call after a while of doubts.
“Emma Tonks.” A male voice casted her name in the calmest tone she’s ever heard.
Never has her name sounded so beautiful, so different than its usual taste to the ears.
“Who is this?” Emma was confused, this is the first time she’d be talking to this man. Or so she thought.
“You’ve forgotten about me so quickly. Well we can leave catching up for later, at the moment I’ve called to congratulate you on your separation from your fiancé.”
It was hard for Emma to concentrate on this stranger’s words when his voice was as angelic as she could picture. It wasn’t rough or hard like the usual male voice, no it was different, it was calm, seductive, and ever soothing to the ears.
“Who are you?” Emma rephrased, because she’s still yet to deduce who this stranger was to her.
“We’re going to leave who I am for some other time. And you’re going to tell me whether or not you wish for me to deal with your fiancé's situation on your behalf? I’ll have no problem if you consider me your guardian angel.”
“Are you mental?” Emma went livid, she’s given this stranger two straight chances for him to come direct and introduce himself, yet he kept playing around with his words.
“I’m not in the mood for any stupidity at the moment, and if you can’t tell me who you are, then you might as well get the heck off my phone.” Angrily, Emma hung up.
He might possess the most beautiful voice she’s ever heard from a man, but the last thing she’s interested in right now is a man.
A knock drew at Emma’s attention.
“Come in,” she authorized swiftly as she worked her landline to dial her staff manager.
The door opened for a fine young man who scurried inside in obvious anxiousness.
Emma stared him down, her looks intimidating and assessing, like she’s on a hunt for a reason to murder him.
“My name is Steve and I’m to be your substitute secretary ma’am.” Contrary to what his expression suggests, he sounded composed and natural, far from nervous.
“And exactly what gave Elizabeth the idea that I’d like my substitute to be a man?” Disgust in its rawest form masked Emma’s face and voice.
“Because you’d need a monster to deal with a monster. Now, I’m not saying I’m a monster, but I am a man. And I have an idea on how we’re going to counter the few moves that have been taken against this company. Yes I did myself a favor by getting up to speed on the issue on ground, and while on my way here I already contacted the head of the media team to report here for an urgent discussion.”
Emma went speechless. Perhaps she would need a monster to deal with a different monster.
