Cara’s POV
My entire body froze for a second, and then my eyes suddenly snapped open. I turned my head slowly, my heart hammering in my chest. Standing there, only a few feet away, was a man.
I furrowed my brows as I looked him over.
He was tall, with broad shoulders and a rugged face that looked like it had seen its share of hard days. His dark hair was flecked with gray at the temples, and his eyes… piercing and watchful… met mine. He looked as surprised to see me as I was to see him.
No, I wasn’t as much surprised as I was shocked and scared. How come someone was out here? It was supposed to be deserted, in the middle of nowhere. I looked him over again to determine whether or not he had come from town or something, but I couldn’t tell with the casual clothes he was wearing.
