26 Annie Dad…my precious, f*****g fabulous dad, buzzed low along the river, his gaze latching onto mine as he flew past. “Daddy,” I whimpered as he banked. Still waving, laughing, and crying, damn near mad, I called out to him a dozen more times while he circled around and flew past again. Rocks and boulders littered the river where I travelled, and I knew he’d have to fly away from sight in order to land. He’d found me. I hurried northward, my hopes flying higher than any plane, than any hawk in the sky. Hopefully, a deep enough section of river lay not too far away, enough he could put down on the water and make his way on foot to me. Rescue had come.
