CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

It’s been a long week waiting for Charlie to do something, anything. I’ve made up scenarios in my mind about what he’ll do to punish me. But nothing feels right. Maybe he’s not going to punish me at all, I begin to think.
Suddenly, he’s at the newspaper office, walking in on a conference I’m having with Daniel Cody. I had no idea these two men even knew each other.
“Charlie, how goes it?” Daniel says as they shake hands.
“Fine, guy. ” They sound like old friends, good friends who haven’t seen each other in a while. While they get reacquainted, I stare aghast as their little repartee goes on.
Then Charlie turns to me.
“What’s this about?” I ask before he can speak. “You two know each other?”
“About fifteen years, maybe,” Charlie replies.
