THE PLEDGE There are 4.3 million stories in the city by the bay. Chapel Street hustles and bustles… I like to walk down there between 6am and 7am on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday morning. I’m essentially going for coffee but I get to see the nightclubbers who have clearly over-indulged; you know, puking in the gutter, staggering and lurching from one lamppost to the next. There’s also the ‘night has just begun’ crew full of drugs, searching for a nightclub that opens at 7am. I get a laugh out of it, knowing I was as bad as them. There’s also the dads with prams who look like they just got out of bed, nursing a coffee with an infant in the pram and more often than not another child holding Dad’s hand or riding one of those mini-scooters, their confidence scary.
