Chapter 7

Grease is always the answer when Ellie's having a bad day. The best option is Lala Diner. This place offers the most satisfying, juiciest cheese burger and fries. The vampire dines here all the time so she compelled the workers to reserve one booth for her. Anyone caught dining in her spot will immediately be her dessert for the day. Oh, nothing is sweeter than a blood fresh from the jugular vein.   "Mm," Ellie moans as her sharp fangs pierce through her double patty cheese burger. She's biting the food like there's no tomorrow and it's not just because it's good. Admittedly, she missed her fangs.   It's been a week since that strange man cornered her in the locker room. It's clear now that she didn't  actually  lose her fangs. The man only made it seem like it. He got into her head—hypnotizing her, making her believe that she lost her fangs when it's clearly there.   She realized this the moment she looks in the mirror. Lana confirmed it as well. Eleanor was just fooled.   "Tss!" She throws the burger back to the plate. She lost her appetite after thinking about that strange man. Eleanor can't wait to meet him again. She will show no mercy. She will kill him. She won't let him get inside her head one more time.   "Enjoying your lunch?"   Eleanor looks up when she heard  that  voice.   Surprisingly, she isn't surprised at all to see the vampire who made her life both heaven and hell.   "Join me." Ellie smiles as she throws a soggy fry in her mouth.   "Actually," he returns her mocking smile. "Jimin will join you today."   Well, this is  the  surprise.   Jimin shows himself by standing beside Sage. Both of them are now standing in front of Eleanor who shockingly goes soft upon seeing her brother.   Sage smiles even harder. Eleanor's expression is wavering. It just means that the ruthless vampire's plan is working. Jimin is the key to make her come back to her senses.   "Sit down." She wears her mask seconds later. She gotta admit, she's impressed by Sage's new variable. She obviously didn't expect to see her brother today, especially because she is aware that Elijah is way too protective over this kid. Clearly, she underestimated Sage.   Jennie's life is not enough to scare them away.   Yes. It is indeed her who killed that annoying, bloodthirsty b***h.   "So," the enchantress takes a sip on her three flavored milkshake—a simple action that made Sage grin. Looking at her reminds him of the past. She loved sweet food; she loved mixing different flavors too. "How are you? I gotta say I'm surprised that it took you a year to find out that I am alive."   Eleanor knows that Sage was in Kinghorn University last week. She's even aware that he went to her dorm and tried to compel Lana. His reckless actions are actually what triggered the enchantress to kill Jennie.   Sage scans the menu. Jimin is quiet beside his uncle—just observing.   "Yeah. I didn't really think you'll settle in this kind of place. You always said you hated the city life."   "Human me hated it," she stuffs another fry in her mouth. "Vampire me loves it. The crowd makes it easier to kill mortals roaming around the busy street,"   She moans like she just reached her high. Eleanor finds pleasure teasing Sage. "Humans are delish,"   It's true, but that's not really the explanation why Ellie chose to live in Kinghorn University dorm. She's a vampire, yes. However, as much as possible, she wants to live the life she has always wanted: pursue a course related to medicine, meet friends, and be happy.   She gets to experience all of this in Kinghorn. The best part is, it's thousands of miles away from Lacuna Valley and Anemone City. Far away from the vampires she doesn't intend to meet again.   Like Sage, she's tired of revenge. A vampire like her has better things to do anyway. i.e. quench her insatiable thirst for blood.   Nowadays, only blood matters.   "Hmm," she turns to Jimin. "Try the chocolate chip milkshake. It goes well with pepperoni pizza!"   Jimin's eyes twinkle. He's happy that his sister is finally talking to her. It's the best prize he can get after his huge fight with Elijah.   "Jimin, please. Open up!" If Elijah wants, he could just break the door so he can talk to the hybrid, howbeit he knows that it'll just fuel Jimin's anger more.   His son is confused, broken, and sad after Elijah revealed that he's only adopted. Thousands of questions are inside Jimin's head. He did a good job suppressing all of it, but when Uncle Sage freed him from compulsion, the queries flood through his mind and he vocalized all of it.   He wants answers. Sadly, he cannot trust his adoptive father to tell him the truth. Once a liar, always a liar. For Jimin, Elijah is nothing but a liar.   "Sweetheart, please? Hear me out. I'll tell you anything you want." The father continues to knock. He kinda regrets telling his son that he's adopted, however he can't help but spill facts when Jimin looked at him using those angel eyes. It melted Elijah's heart.   "I don't want you to tell me what I want to hear." Because what Jimin wants is complicated. He desires to know the truth and at the same time, he doesn't want to get hurt. He can't have both. Obviously, Elijah will only say things that won't cause pain to the little kid.   Elijah will just sugarcoat things.   "Then I'll do anything you want." The very first untouchable is desperate.   The door suddenly opens.   Jimin's face is full of tears.   "I want to hear the truth from my family—" he swallows hard. "My real family."   "My little buddy right here wants to get to know his real family," Sage takes a sip on his hot cocoa and  damn.  He forgot how good chocolate drinks taste. Why did he even switch to coffee liqueur?   "Just so you know, you aren't Elijah's first choice, but we can't find your dad—"   "I want to meet you," Jimin cuts his uncle's statement by sheepishly smiling at his sister.   Eleanor smirks.   "Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't feel the same way." She's speaking the truth. Eleanor doesn't have time to think about any family member because honestly, the only thing in her mind is  blood.   Jimin looks down on the melting ice cream of his milkshake, embarrassment run through his whole body. His sister just blatantly told him that she doesn't give a s**t about him.   The hybrid sighs. It feels as though the pain he caused to Elijah is not worth it. He didn't expect Ellie to be this coldhearted, mainly because Uncle Sage seems to like her a lot. Is uncle's taste in woman bad?   "So Ellie," Sage attempts to change the subject and Eleanor cringes. She hates how this ruthless vampire just casually mentioned her name—as if they're old friends who haven't harmed each other. "Tell us about your father."   "He doesn't know this little hybrid exists." She shrugs while taking a sip on her milkshake   Jimin's face is so pale. Why is this so hard for him to hear? He wants the truth and he's getting it now.   "Oh, wait. Let me rephrase that." The female vampire scowls upon realizing that her words hurt Jimin. "He doesn't care about this little hybrid's existence,"   Double kill.   "Didn't you tell him?" Ellie pouts her lips as she stares at expressionless Sage. "Our father has a new family now. He's got a beautiful wife and as far as I know, their son is turning one this year! Cool!"   She laughs mockingly. When Eleanor turns to her brother, she instantly comes face to face with  devastation.  Jimin is obviously lonely. This is what he gets for not being contented with the family he has at the moment.   "The kid's probably way cuter than you—"   "Okay that's enough," Sage grits his teeth together. He feels bad okay? He is aware that he's the reason why Jimin is suffering now. Maybe freeing him from the compulsion isn't the best idea.   "Just tell us about Cassandra," the ruthless vampire caresses Jimin's hand. A subtle way to comfort him.   "Oh, come on, Sage." Eleanor rolls her eyes as she bites the straw of her milkshake. "You brought him to me without telling him the basics? Does this kid even know how he turned into a vampire?"   The only information Elijah told Jimin is that he's adopted. When the hybrid claimed that he wanted to meet his real family, his adoptive father then called Sage to solve this problem. What the ruthless vampire said minutes ago is true. Elijah's first option is to let Jimin meet Jude. They even asked for Hope's help to locate the hybrid's biological father, but for some reason, it didn't work.   Sage then said that they don't have a choice but to go to Eleanor. She's the only family member of Jimin who they can trace. Elijah proposed to locate Wilnadette instead, but Jimin decided that he wanted to meet his sister.   "Cassandra died upon giving birth to you and it's because your adoptive father bit her. He turned the both of you into vampires—"   "Stop." Sage demands.   "What?" Eleanor cackles again. "Why? You said this little piece of s**t wants to know what happened to our family. I'm just—"   "I said stop it!" Sage is already trembling with rage. Jimin is silently sobbing beside him. f**k. He shouldn't have done this.   Sage never learns. He always hurts creatures just to get what he wishes.   "Then you shouldn't have gone here if you really want me to stop." Eleanor grins evilly when suddenly, Jimin's nose starts bleeding.   "U-Uncle S-Sage...I c...can't breathe!" Then the hybrid throws up blood.   Eleanor smiles even more.   "Aren't you curious how I killed Jennie?" The female vampire puts her chin on her palm to support her face's weight.    "Eleanor..." The ruthless vampire warns after getting to know that what's happening to Jimin is her fault.   "What?" Her lips protrude into a sulky pout. "I'm merely showing you how Jennie died."   "Bullshit!" Sage roars. "You're killing your brother!"   The enchantress didn't say anything. Instead, she continues to torture Jimin just by staring at the hybrid.   Sage groans.   "Stop it!"   Jimin's neck is also bleeding. There's a small cut in there, but it gets bigger the moment Sage adjusts his voice as he commands "Stop it!" again.   Eleanor laughs even harder.   "Trying to compel me, aren't you?" The distaste in her voice is evident. She is certain that Sage's tone changed because he's trying to coerce her into stopping the torture.   "You're wasting time, my love. It's not going to work just like how you failed to compel my roommate."   Shocker.   Eleanor is one step ahead from Sage or any other vampires because she's still an enchantress.   Her power as a witch only strengthened when she turned into a bloodsucker. This is the explanation why she's able to kill Jennie, an untouchable.   Sage's compulsion towards Lana didn't work too since Eleanor has the power to block any coercion coming to anyone. Her roommate just pretended like she's being compelled. The minute Sage let her go; Lana went straight to Eleanor to tell her what happened.   "H-Help..." Jimin is suffocating, yet Eleanor feels nothing.   "Eleanor, please!" Sage begs. His sorrowful eyes did nothing to change the female vampire's mind.   Seconds before Jimin dies, Eleanor manages to smile.   "This is your final warning." She stands up. "The next time you disturb me, I'm gonna bury you in the same spot where you buried me."   The ruthless vampire doesn't answer. He's busy checking Jimin's pulse.   Eleanor glances at the two pathetic vampires before super speeding away from the booth.   Sage's tears fall.   Jimin just stopped breathing.
