THIS GUY IS A CREEP

1297 Words
Sophie woke up to the persistent throbbing in her head, a cruel reminder of the indulgence from the club. "I feel so awful," she grumbled. Sophie's reflection as she lay on the bed was the aftermath of a wild night—disheveled hair and remnants of last night's makeup. With a deep breath, she massaged her temples, attempting to will away the pounding ache that was there. "I shouldn't have listened and gone to the club with Irene," she muttered to herself, a pang of remorse echoing in her groan. "Who goes to a club on a weekday, anyway?" Dragging herself to the bathroom, Sophie let the lukewarm water cascade over her. The sound of water droplets hitting the tiles resonated with her contemplative thoughts. Emerging from the shower, she faced her reflection in the steamed-up mirror, questioning the choices that led her to this throbbing hangover. Sophie came out of the bathroom and headed to her wardrobe. As she sifted through her clothes, memories from the night resurfaced. The pulsating music, flashing lights, and Irene's enthusiasm echoed in her thoughts. *Gasp* She remembered the guy from last night, she didn't get to know his name but recalled how she threw up on him, "What the hell is wrong with you Sophie? Why did you do that?" She questioned, frantically running her fingers through her hair. 'Anyway, that was in the past. There is no way he can find me' she thought worriedly. Choosing a simple outfit to match her subdued morning mood, Sophie couldn't shake off the unease that lingered. A message popped on her phone, and her eyes caught on the time, 9:30. "I am dead!" She exclaimed. "What! 9:30, I am already late for work." She raised her eyes, staring at the ceiling, "God! If you are listening; if you can allow us to buy time, I will gladly give you all my savings." "I shouldn't have followed Irene to that stupid club," she spoke hurriedly and ran out of the house, heading to the bus stop. But Sophie couldn't fault Irene for suggesting the club to her. Irene wanted her to chill and forget her ex who had dumped her with just a text message. Sophie ran to the bus stop and entered the bus. Her breath labored as she took a seat. While on the bus, a guy was busy checking her out. Fair skin, blond hair, and a charming smile on his face staring at Sophie but she ignored him. He kept on looking at her even after she glared at him. Sophie was beginning to find his stare irritating. "What do you want?" Sophie said to him hotly. "Nothing, I like the way you look, can I talk to you for a minute?" He asked. "No, you can't." She said dismissively. "Don't be that lady who is always grumpy and sad, if you talk to me I will make you feel good baby." He said winking at her. Sophie felt repulsed by the action and turned her head in the other direction. But he still came to meet her and wanted to sweet-talk her into giving him her number. This guy is a f*****g creep, she clenched her fist in anger but the guy didn't take notice of that. Sophie said to him, "Before I give you my number you have to answer these three questions, and if you can answer, I will give you my number but if you don't you don't ever disturb me." But the guy was so eager to get her number, you can ask me anything, anything for your baby. He boasted, He caressed her hand and Sophie pulled away from his touch, a repulsed glare on her features. "Here we go! If starfish live in the ocean and not in the sky, why are they called starfish?" "That is a weird quest...." Sophie didn't allow him to complete his sentence before asking the next question, "If a pineapple doesn't have a seed, why is it called a fruit? And lastly, If you can't answer simple questions why are you asking for my number? Stupid fool" Sophie shouted at him, the guy was so confused and apologized to Sophie. He was so embarrassed as people began paying them more attention. when the bus stopped, he quickly ran out of the bus to prevent any further embarrassment. "What a f*****g creep!" Sophie called after him as he ran out from the bus, cowering his head in shame. When Sophie arrived at the office, she knew she was late and was expecting to be scolded by her superior. When she was called up by the manager, she wasn't surprised, she was prepared to weasel herself out of the impending query. "Sophie good morning! I hope you aren't going through a life crisis?" Justin her manager spoke, his eyes silently scrutinizing her appearance, he could see the beads of sweat that stained her fair forehead. 'I hope Irene is happy wherever she is. Why did I agree to go with her to that club?' "Life crisis! I don't understand." Sophie creased her eyebrows in confusion. Justin facepalmed and sighed, "This will make it the fourth time you're coming late to the office this week and this is Thursday. Last week you came late all through and the week before and the week before, you're becoming a shell of yourself. I could remember how you used to come early, it was as if you slept in the office but now." he paused and sighed again. Justin shook his head sadly, "I will be forced to give you a query letter, you are a hard-working lady, it will be a shame to fire you." he put his hand on her shoulder and gave it a slight squeeze. "So, just change for us okay? You know I got your back always, I have been doing my best to defend you but you always come late, making it hard for me to keep defending you. In the last meeting that was held, they decided to fire you but because of your previous record, they decided to only give you a query letter. I know the breakup is still going through your mind and it is making you lose your touch, but girl you need to snap out of it because it is costing you your job." Justin spoke to Sophie gently with concern prominent in his voice. Her mouth fell, never expecting such remarks from him. She was taken aback, "What! breakup!" Sophie dragged her words, I was over Fred a long time ago. "Last month, you guys broke up just two months ago, so it's not a long time ago," Justin added, an eyebrow slightly raised. "Whatever," Sophie rolled her eyes. "I am sorry for coming late, I apologize...." Justin raised a finger up, halting her halfway in her speech, "You supposed to add again, I'm sorry for coming late again. Seriously, if I was not your friend, you would have been laid off." Justin said. Sophie nodded her head meekly as if she had learned her lesson, "I apologize for coming late, I will make sure I change my ways" She gave him a sweet smile. Justin rolled his eyes and sighed, "Sweetheart! I hope you change for your own sake, clear off your mind, and get it back on track." He gave her a warning look, "If not, you will be out of a job very soon." He said and walked away, his long legs moving fast in long strides, leaving Sophie to stare after his retreating form. Sophie stood with a troubled expression on her face, she scratched her hair, not knowing what to do with herself. "I will do better, next time," she muttered beneath her breath.
