C H A P T E R    S E V E N Audrey's POV I stood outside Sarah's door for a good minute figuring out how I'm going to tell her about the marriage. My hands were shaking as my hand hovered the doorbell. Sighing, I took a deep breath and decided to ring the doorbell but someone opened it before I could. "Come in, Audrey." Cynthia, Sarah's mother said. I smiled at her and made my way inside the house. I look around to see the familiar house where all my childhood memories lie. We'd make forts in her living room around the age of ten, play outside, play dress up and everything that little girls love to do. I felt scared that all these memories would be foreign when she found out of the marriage. "I wasn't aware you were coming. I thought that-never mind she is upstairs," I nodded and made my way upstairs. Was she expecting someone else? I barged into her room to find her putting her phone on charge but that didn't stop me from attacking her. I hugged her tightly because she's been gone the entire summer. "You're gonna crush me," she tried to take me off and I noticed that her breathing was kind of off. Her eyes were bloodshot red, instead of bright and blue, her nose was slightly puffed up, and her hair was slightly all over the place. Which I find really weird because she said that her hair always has to be perfect. "Are you okay?" I asked her. She nodded and motioned me to sit down next to her. I nodded unsure because she doesn't tell me to sit down when she wants to talk about something serious. "How was the trip?" I asked excitedly. She went on vacation for three months which was practically the whole entire summer. "It was good, how was yours?" She asked curiously. "It was alright?" My entire summer was good but today was the worst day of my entire life. The fun things that I did over the summer disappeared with a snap of a finger. "Really? So you are saying that nothing happened while I was gone?" She asked. The way she looked at me seemed like she was desperately holding onto something but I wasn't sure what it was. "Hey, you okay? You just zoned out there is something wrong?" She asked and grabbed both of my hands and held it. She looked down at my hands confused and looked back at me. "You know you can trust me right?" Her eyes were staring right against my own and I nodded. I was slightly worried she has never been this vulnerable. Something must have happened during the trip. I don't think it is the right time to tell her. I wanted to tell her but I didn't want to worry her. How could I tell her that I was getting married to her boyfriend? While something was going on with her right now? I had to find a way to stop this marriage, so that she won't worry about it.  "I know, I trust you more than anything, Sarah." It's true. Her and Kylie were really close to me and they both meant a lot to me. "So is there anything you want to tell me?" She asked me. She sat up straight as if she was expecting me to tell her. What happened on the trip? Why is she behaving this way? "No, nothing is happening in the moment." I lied. I promise you, Sarah, I will fix this mess. The lie burned my throat. Her eyes slightly narrowed at my sight and she nodded her head slightly and laughed. "Pathetic," she dropped both of my hands and stood up. I got up slightly confused as to what just happened. "You are a liar," she spat at me and flinched back by her outburst. "What are you talking about?" I questioned. She clenched her fists tightly and looked at me with hatred. She took a step forward and I could feel the heat radiating off of her and onto me. Why is she angry? What did I do? "I know about the marriage, Audrey, why didn't you tell me huh? He told me two months ago when he found out the question is why didn't you?" She yelled out angrily. My eyes slightly burned, I tried to say something but my mouth wouldn't open. I took a deep breath and told her. "Sarah, I didn't know about the marriage until today. I was planning on fixing it first and then I was going to tell you because I didn't want to worry you. You have to believe me Sarah-" I stopped when she chuckled. "No, you knew. I mean why else would your summer be good right? You probably knew longer than Connor and you decided to keep it a secret because you have a crush on him. I bet once you found out that you were going to marry Connor you were happy and excited and you didn't want to break the marriage." She said bitterly. "That's not true-," she scoffed and cut me off. "Stop lying to me, it all makes sense. The only reason why you wanted to be my friend is so that you could get close to Connor. I knew that we shouldn't have been friends, a part of me always told me that you weren't a good person and I always ignored it. Now I know and I won't make the same mistake again. I wished I had listened to myself because this friendship would've been broken a long time ago. In the past, however, many years I thought that you were one of my best friends. Actually scratch that, I thought that you were like my sister and I thought that we were really close so why would you do that to me huh?" I tried to grab her hand but she pulled away and laughed at me. "But you want to know the funny part, when Connor told me that he was getting married to a girl named Audrey. I was like Audrey? He told me Audrey Anderson and I didn't believe it because deep down I thought it was someone else and today you confirmed it yourself. He knew for two months and so did you but the difference is that he told me and you kept it a secret for the past two months. I waited each day thinking that you would tell me and I would purposely mention Connor but you didn't tell me. You were probably busy preparing for the wedding right? It all makes sense now. I wish we were never friends and just know this. Connor would never marry a girl like you," she spat out. I choked on my tears as she continued to tell me how she hates me. She really thinks that I would do this to her? It was all just a misunderstanding. I grab Sarah's hands tightly. "Sarah, I would never take Connor ever away from you. I never looked at him that way ever and I never paid attention to him. I didn't know about the marriage until today I swear to you I didn't and as soon as I found out I went to my grandpa. I asked him but he kept saying no but don't worry I will figure out a way and I don't want to come in between you and Connor. I would never come in between you two and I would never do anything that would harm our friend-" She grabbed my hands and pushed me away from her. "Ship," she finished. She walked away,  "Are you done? I know you are faking all okay? I don't believe in your excuses. Whatever you are trying to do isn't going to work. The fact that you knew that I love Connor and you still- you know what this is over this friendship whatever this is done,"  she shouted. "I'll break this marriage and prove to you that this is all just a misunderstanding," Sarah ignored me and turned around. I went towards her to touch her shoulder but stopped midway. She needs to be alone and with that I made my way outside. I heard someone call my name but I ignored it and made my way out. I opened the door to see the person who ruined my life. Connor looked at me surprised to see me here but I could care less. I just wanted to leave. I tried to go but he blocked my way by standing right in front of me. I looked up at him to see him curiously looking at me and he asked me the same question he did before. "How do you know Sarah Carter?" I flinched when I heard the sound of glass shattering along with Sarah cursing my name. I closed my eyes, hearing her scream out 'I wish we never met' and 'I hate you Audrey.' Opening my eyes, I noticed Connor was staring at me while studying my reaction to what Sarah was saying. I heard a thud sound turning around, Something was thrown out the window. It was a box filled with stuff. I made my way towards the box and I noticed that most of the stuff in the box belonged to me. I reached out to pick up the bracelet that I made her eleven years ago. I continued to look in the but stopped midway when Sarah grabbed my hand and pushed me away causing me to fall onto Connor. He grabbed my arm preventing me from falling. My head was against his chest and I looked up at him to see him staring back down at me. I quickly got out of his hold and straightened myself up.  Sarah poured gasoline on the box and grabbed the lighter, turned around and made direct eye contact with me. My breathing gets heavier by the minute. This isn't happening, this is all just a dream there is no way Sarah would ever do this to me. "Sarah, what are you doing?" Connor asked. "Now it's over," she threw the lighter on the box and before the flames went all over Connor grabs Sarah and pulls her away from it before she could hurt herself. The flames burst out causing me to take an extra step back. "Are you crazy?" Connor exclaimed angrily. "No, I'm sane." She chuckled while looking at me. I watched the fire spread but Chloe came out of nowhere and stopped the fire from spreading. I took a step back and let the tears flow. "Chloe take Sarah inside, I'll take care of this," Connor said. Chloe nodded and walked cautiously around the fire and motioned Sarah to go with her. I looked away and pulled my hair  as I watched the fire slowly drift away. Wiping my tears away I made my way towards the box. I picked up the box but let it go right away as I felt my hands burn. The fire wasn't completely gone but that didn't stop me. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" He held my arm tightly and pulled me towards him so that I'm away from the box. Without looking at him I yanked my arm away from his hold, and made my way towards the box again. Common sense didn't matter, she is still my best friend. Just when I was about to reach out for the box his arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me back to his chest. "You are going to hurt yourself." He whispered out. I struggled against his hold. I scratched, kicked, and pulled, but he didn't budge. "But the box," I choked out. My heart ached as I watched the smoke come out of the box. I tried to get out of his hold but it only tightened. Everything was in the box from the past thirteen years in our life. The tears burned my eyes and cheeks leaving a mark as I watched the box slowly burn away.  It's all gone. I stopped struggling and wiped the tears from the back of my sleeve. "I'll give you the box tomorrow," He said softly. I slightly turned around and looked at him to see whether he was telling the truth or not and he was. "I'm going to let you go now, okay?" I nodded and turned around. His eyes were laced with concern. I turned around and looked at the box once again and shed one last tear and finally made my way home. "Happy Birthday Audrey," I whispered to myself.
