C H A P T E R   F I V E Connor's POV "For what?" She said and looked at her mother. The fire inside of me rushed through my veins burning me. My hands clenched tightly together as her words continued to repeat over and over again haunting me. Her acting oblivious and terrified almost made me think that maybe she was telling the truth, but it all went away when they sealed the marriage. How foolish of me thinking that she would take what I said into consideration. The thought about her wanting to marry me made me furious. Her being "oblivious" was all part of her act and I wasn't going to let her get away with it. I'm going to make her regret saying yes for this marriage. I said no but I had no choice because I was trying to protect him. My parents didn't know about it because he made me sign a contract. If I told my parents then he will make sure that I'll never see him again. It's messed up, that grandpa would do that to me especially since he meant something to him also. I hated him for that, actually, scratch that, I hated him for that and I'll never forgive him. I wasn't sure what I was going to tell Sarah. I couldn't let this girl that I've known for almost an hour ruin what Sarah and I had. Under some circumstance we hid our relationship for three years and we were going to make it official this year, and I wasn't going to let this stupid marriage get in the way of my relationship. No one knew that we were dating, well, besides my sister and grandmother. They saw us holding hands under the table while we were having lunch. Our best friends didn't even know because we didn't want anyone to tell anyone and create drama. They thought that we were just "close friends" I continued to glare at her, hoping that she would slowly disappear into thin air. She moved back her soft, long caramel brown hair that hung down from her slim shoulders. Her eyebrows furrowed in distress when her mother had whispered something in her ear. Her delicate, dark brown eyes wandered everywhere as if she wanted to get out of here but they stopped when they met mine. Tears clouded her eyes threatening to fall down but she held them in. Her hands were balled up into a tight fist. She's hurt...did she really not know about this marriage? She looked down, fluttering her eyes and closing them, she took a deep breath and opened her eyes. With that she speed walked towards my direction making her bump into me. But that didn't stop her, with that, she ran up the stairs but stumbled a couple times along the way. Weird. "Go see if Audrey is okay," I looked at my grandpa to see a mischievous smile making its way on his face and nodded knowing that I had no choice. I walked up the stairs only to be lost. Where did she go? Should I look for her or should I hide in the bathroom? I made my way towards the bathroom slowly making sure that she couldn't hear me if she was nearby. Just when I was about to open the door I heard voices coming from a room that's near the bathroom.  I walked towards where the voices were coming from only to find Audrey and Kylie talking? Audrey was on the ground crying, tears strum down her cheeks and Kylie was sitting next to her trying to calm her down. "Talk to me Audrey how are you-" Audrey snapped her head up while wiping her tears away making it seem like she wasn't crying just now. She smiled at Kylie and said, "It's nothing" She seems to fool me everytime, what she did back there was all an act she did know about the marriage. I actually considered, wow, she played me not just once but multiple times. Her eyes slightly widened and she quickly jumped up and I took a step back slightly surprised by her reaction. Did she see me? I mean she couldn't have the door isn't open all the way. Just to be safe I decided to leave before they would check. "I'm marrying Connor, Sarah's boyfriend," I stopped walking and stood there in my tracks. My heart lightly raced and confusion arose making me wonder. How did she know that I was Sarah's boyfriend because no one knew. I mean no one. "No, no, no, I can't- I have to stop this marriage at all costs. Oh god I need to tell-" Kylie put her finger against her lips telling her to stop talking. "I think someone is by the door, I heard something," Kylie whispered but I still heard what she said. I quickly made my way towards the bathroom and shoved myself in there without closing the door. "No one's there," Kylie said. "I think we should go downstairs. They are probably wondering where we are, but before that I have to use the bathroom." I look around to see where I should hide. Finally, I decided, I quickly walked towards the shower curtain and hid myself behind it. I covered my mouth as my breathing slightly got heavier. "Are you-" "I'm fine just go!" Audrey said cheerfully, she slightly shoved Kylie towards the stairs and I shuffled a bit to the left just to be safe. Why is she happy? Wasn't she crying two minutes ago? I heard her lock the door and just stand there. What is she doing? I wondered. I stood sideways trying to hear what she's doing. I hope she isn't going to use the bathroom because that isn't a sight to see. A loud thud causes me to jump up slightly and makes me hit my head against this cement like- bar soap holder. I held my hand against my head and covered my mouth trying not to make any noise. The pain was inevitable but I held it in and stood there silently. I moved the curtain a little to see what had happened. She was sitting on the floor as she pulled her hair. I took my hand down, suddenly, watching what she's doing distracted the pain. "I've done everything that she asked me to do. What else does she want from me?" She burst out crying and threw her head against the wall giving her some support.  A phone rang and I checked my pocket to see if it was mine but it wasn't. I look up to see Audrey wiping her tears for the umpteenth time. She smiled and picked up the call. "Hey...I miss you...did you have fun at least...that's good...Well, I'll come over tonight when you come back...no I'm okay...okay...bye." Who was she talking to? She took a step forward and turned the water on. She splashed her face a couple of times and dried herself up. Turning the water off she stood there for a moment and looked at herself in the mirror. She stared at her own reflection and smiled. What was she doing? Admiring herself? But a part of me told me that her smile and her eyes didn't quite match. "Maybe, Connors grandma is right." She said ever so softly. It was so quiet that if someone had even slightly moved they wouldn't have heard what she said. She fixed her hair by putting a couple of strands behind her ears and nodded. With one deep breath she walked out. My heart slightly pained at the sight and I stood there wondering why.
