CHAPTER 5 Dante PoV I skimmed through the financial reports spread across my desk, a frown etched deeply on my face as I was not pleased with the result. I gnawed at the recent loss in the company, feeling immense disappointment. "It seemed my workers were not putting in the effort", I muttered while angrily pushing the report away. A knock on the door drew my attention. It was Kenneth, he walked furiously grabbed the report, and made a displeased gesture. "I told you, Dante," he began, "but you wouldn't listen. You declined the contract and now we have been blackmailed, resulting in a significant loss of fortune." He said as he sat down hastily, propping his feet up on my desk. "I did what was right, Kenneth," I responded with regret. "Someone is behind this loss." The room fell silent as Kenneth stared at me without saying a word. "Are you not going to say anything, Kenneth?" I prompted, trying to get him to speak. "You know what, Dante? We will get to the bottom of this, but first I need to take a walk and get something to eat. I am famished," Kenneth said, leaving my office with a chuckle. What is so funny? I asked, but he ignored me and slammed the door Kenneth has always been a good friend and a good worker to me, as he is diligent and dedicated to his position, but we both seem to be surprised by the failed results we got this time around. I couldn't escape the figures of the loss on the spreadsheet. A rare streak of failure filled me, and my typically confident demeanor stuttered. The weight of my responsibilities bore down on me, causing my shoulders to sag. "I need to strategize on how to save my company," I said, slamming my fist on the table with distress. My thoughts involuntarily drifted back to Lady Lynette, whom I met at the club. The allure of her presence from the previous night lingered in my memory, and I longed for another moment with her. "Hey Lynette, would you like to hang out at De Dones?" I typed, wanting to get to know her better. The message was sent. But it wasn't just Lady Lynette's beauty that drew me in; it was also the enigma that covered her. A woman with secrets, striving to make her life perfect. My thoughts were interrupted as Verlice entered my office. She walked slowly, her body moving flawlessly. As she sat down, I couldn't help but be drawn to her cleavage. "Do you like what you see?" she teased, caressing my face and raising my chin. "I'm busy now anyways," I added as I pulled her hands off me. "You didn't even call before coming," I said, annoyed at her feeling of entitlement "Do I have to call every time?" She retorted. Her sense of entitlement irritated me. "What do you want?" I asked, gathering the file and placing it in the drawer. "I'm busy right now," I said, leaving her in the office without another word. I had received a response from Lynette, who agreed to meet me there. I was thrilled that she had accepted my invitation. I quickly left the company, my workers greeting me as I walked elegantly past them. "Where are we going, sir?" Bob, my driver, asked as he opened the car door and hurried to the driver's seat. "Let's go to the spa first," I replied. "I have a date to catch up with." "Okay, sir," he responded, driving us to the spa. After getting my spa treatment, we headed to "De Dones," a luxurious restaurant in town. As Lynette entered De Dones, the soft glow of the chandeliers illuminated her elegant gown. She looked like a character from a classic film and immediately caught my attention, taking me back to the night we met. I couldn't help but smile uncontrollably as she approached our table. She was so beautiful, and I hadn't noticed it last night. "Good afternoon, Dante," she greeted as she sat down gracefully, crossing her legs and resting her arm on them. A sense of delight filled the air as I reached out my hand towards her. "Welcome, Lynette. I'm glad you accepted my invitation," I said, looking at her with love. Lynette seemed uncomfortable, continuously gazing at me. "What's this date for?" She questioned, pulling her bag closer to her. The drinks I ordered were served and poured into our glasses. I took a sip before answering her. "It's just a date. I want to get to know you more," I said, subtly studying her reaction. "Relax, Lynette. I won't bite," I added with a playful smile. The ambiance of the restaurant seemed to freeze as our eyes locked onto each other's. Can I ask if you obtained your husband's consent before accepting this date, or is this simply part of your lifestyle? My words may have lacked remorse, but I intended to become more familiar with this mysterious lady who seemed to have set me ablaze. As Lynette rose in anger, she retorted with disdain. "Did you invite me here to insult me, sir?" she seethed while attempting to leave. "No, my dear. I apologize if my words hurt, but I simply felt compelled to ask," I explained. "We are still in the process of divorce," she firmly revealed. "Are you content with this decision?" I asked "Whose decision is it - yours or your husband's?" Lynette seemed to be so uncomfortable with the question, as she moved her eyes left and right continuously. I apologized for my barrage of questions, I said trying to calm her nerves as simply wanted to know her better I took a sip of my drink. "It was my decision," Lynette finally replied. Anyways Let me properly introduce myself, I said as I sat down in an upright position. I am Dante Benny, the esteemed CEO of Vagans Company. With great dedication, I'm glad I still hold that coveted position. I said. "And what do you do?" curious to know more about her. she smirked and sipped on her wine. "I am Lynette Sam, currently employed at Binges Restaurant," she replied confidently. "Interesting," I replied, impressed. Our date got on smoothly, enhanced by the melodious background music and a sweeter ambiance.
