CHAPTER THREE
“DO I HAVE a surprise for you.” Emma Rochester, Kelly’s younger sister, scooted into the wooden chair across from Kelly at their regular table at House of Joe’s, a small coffee shop along Barnard Street. Thursday morning coffee had become a ritual for the siblings since Jared’s death, a time to come together and vent about the week. Kelly knew the real reason, however, was for Emma to check on her sister, making sure she wasn’t hiding in her town house moping. Emma tucked a stray strand of her strawberry-blond hair behind her right ear while, with her other hand, she reached over and tore off a piece of her sister’s cream cheese smothered bagel. “We’ve been invited to Trent Wilson’s Halloween party and his parties are parties with a capital P.”
