CHAPTER NINE
“EARTH TO KELLY. Come in Kelly.”
The words penetrated the fog blanketing Kelly’s mind, jarring her attention from wherever it had been and bringing it back to her sister. Emma stood in front of Kelly shaking her head. “I’m sorry. Say that again, please.”
“What has you spacing out today? That’s the third time I’ve caught you standing there while your mind is somewhere else.” Emma crossed her arms over her chest and gave her sister that I’m-not-budging-until-you-spill-it look.
Kelly was tempted to walk around her and leave her standing there, but knowing Emma, she probably would run in front of her, using her body as a wall. With a deep breath of surrender, Kelly said, “I didn’t sleep well. Bad night. I guess it just has my mind befuddled.”
