Chapter Two

1185 Words
I walk the border a few times before I head down to the training grounds and start the early morning training. I normally leave the recruit training to my instructors while I train our specialists three days a week. I watch as the instructor starts the session by getting the recruits to run twenty laps. I smile to myself. I would have made them do fifty, after making sure that I am happy with my instructors work. I make my way slowly to the pack house. Normally, I avoid the pack house. It is the heart of our pack, and there will often be a lot of our members working or hanging around. I try to avoid the crowd of our pack. The less I am around people, the less of a risk I am. While I am vigorously training the specialists, my wolf seems satisfied to watch the rest of my time I spend trying to lock her into the confines of my mind. But the Alpha has requested the pack leaders to be in his office today. As I walk closer to the pack house, I start seeing the fear in the people around me, mothers pulling their children away from me. Though they try and not make it obvious, I notice. The pack is very aware of the dangers of my wolf if I was to ever lose control. It's not their fault, I would be cautious to if someone was dangerous in the pack. I quickly make my way to the alpha's office, knocking twice before walking in. Alaric sat behind his desk, head down in his paperwork, barley aware of my presence. I softly clear my throat, he quickly looks up, and a smile lights up his face. He is always so happy to see me. It has been four months since I saw him last time, four months since Fang took over last time. Alaric and Sera, his luna, took me in when my parents died due to a rogue attack. Despite being my uncle and grieving the loss of his brother, they raised me as their own. Alaric quickly comes over for a hug, wrapping his arms around me tight. I quickly pull back, not wanting to be too close. I can still feel the soft prickle against my skin, of Fang just sitting waiting for my resolve to fall down. "How is she today?" Alaric asks, she being Fang. "She is waiting, like always." I sigh."Why do you need us here? It's not good for me to be at the pack house." I sigh. Alaric looks at me for a second before answering. I can see him being deep in thought, trying to choose his words carefully. "The Alpha council meeting has been called for tomorrow, and I need you to come with me." He states, trying to gadge my reaction. "No," I refused. I was not leaving pack ground. "You need to be there, I need you to assess another pack for me." He declares. I almost groan out loud, one problem that comes with my position in the pack in my responsibility to aid the Alpha in meetings, and I avoid them at all cost. I have never gone to any of the Alpha meetings, but this time, I don't think I can get out of it. "We think one of the packs has been abusing their power, this has also been put forward to us by the Crescent Moon Pack," Alaric explains. The name of their pack captures my interest. In the pack hierarchy the Crescent Moon pack is the strongest and most deadly pack, not much is known about the Alpha they like to keep to themselves and rarely involves themselves in shifter politics, were we the Nightfall Pack rank as third, but Alaric holds a lot of respect in the shifter community due to his ongoing relief efforts in the rouge attacks to other packs. If Crescent Moon Pack was getting involved, it must be bad. I nod my head in understanding. If the Alpha needs me there, then I will reluctantly be there. "Gamma," I hear through the pack mind link, "we have rogues at the border." I feel a smile creep across my face, and it's time to blow off some steam. I turn to my Alpha, "I'm needed at the border." I smile before I run out, not waiting for his reply. I quickly dart out of the pack house and make my way to the border. I can already hear the air vibrating with conflict. As my pack notices my presence, they start retreating from the rogues, allowing me free range and access to our threat. While I never chose to shift even when I am fighting someone, there is always that air of caution in case Fang was to take over. I see the first rogue wolf. Without hesitation, I quickly dart up to them first the fur a mottled grey. Still in my human form, before the Rogue can gauge my threat level, I throw myself onto its back and wrap my arms around its throat. Without hesitation, I quickly jerk their neck to the side, I feel the snap of their bones vibrate through my body as their body slumps to the floor. I feel Fangs sense of approval with the body of the wolf that laid at my feet. I turn my attention to the next rogue, who has one of the pack members pinned down as they bite down hard on their shoulder. I growl escapes my lips as I run forward, I grab their jaw that is locked on my pack member and pry it open. The rogue try's to pull away. "I don't think so," I snarl before I snap their jaw back, further breaking it as it hands limp of their face. The gurgled cries of agony are fueling Fang in my head. Another pack member launches forward, biting and snapping the rogues neck, finishing them off. I look around, and it seems the rogues are either dead or have now run off. I sigh, and I did not get to play all too much. I look down at the hurt pack member. I pulled the rogue off, and their wolf is whimpering in pain. "Shift," I demand. So I can better assess their wounds. With great agony, I watch them shift back to their human form. A young male, Kale, I think his name is whose hair sticks to their head as sweat beads down their face. I look to his shoulder. The skin is in pieces, and it's clearly dislocated. If this was to heal wrong, it would be harder to fix. Kale still avoids looking at me despite his injuries. I sigh. Before he can stop me, I reach forward, yanking his torn arm back into place, he screams. "Sorry, it needed to be done before you started healing," I explain. He groans but nods his head. I pass him off to the next pack member and walk around to check on the other pack members.
