''Welcome to Synchronous.'' A man that was perched over a high table said as he looked down at me. Guardian Ryker stood a foot away from where I stood. He was quite. I, on the other hand, had a serious case of verbal diarrhea. ''So basically, what you saying to me is I had powers on earth, I just didn't know it?'' I looked over at him Ryker, a tingle ran up my spine, he stood dead still like a statue, no expression fell over his features, ignoring my question he spoke to the man with a beard that was as long as his torso. ''She will be going to the gifted academy, Her name is Avery Ferox, Time of death in the earthly world was at exactly 11:43 AM, Time of arrival at Synchronous was at exactly 21:00pm. I swung around and looked at him again. ''Wait, what? This world still works in human time?'' I asked a little bit dumbfounded. My mind was swarming with questions and that was the only one that came out. I still felt a sense of cautiousness, Ryker or Guardian Ryker as he so put it was like a rock. I couldn't get anything out of him. ''Special Ability?'' The man looked down at me and asked, my mouth went dry. I looked up at the ceiling, it was dome shaped with a large mural of a man and women with electricity bolting from their fingers painted on the plafond. There weren't any walls around the building, though, everything was made from glass, there was an eerie stillness to the place, large gleaming gold high chairs and tables were planted all around the place, ques of people stood in lines waiting for what I didn't know. ''Healing,'' Ryker said, and I stared at him, he seemed to know more about me then I did. ''A healer, that is a precious gift child and very rare.'' The old man said as he looked down at me, all I could do was stare at him. I had so much to ask but a doormat of a person to get the information out of. ''She must go for her standard chip to be inserted and protocol and then she may choose what field of work she will be studying for.'' The man said Ryker took a projecting kind of tablet from the man, my face was inserted at the top with ''Healer'' printed in bold. ''Do you have a first name?'' I asked him as we started walking, I followed behind him trying to catch up to his fast pace. ''Take this.'' He said ignoring me again. He shoved a thin pipe into my hand that looked like a pen, there was a small button inserted on the tip of it and I pushed it. I jumped back somewhat as a project-able screen popped out from nowhere. "Welcome.'' An almost robotic voice said, a lady appeared on the screen she had sleek black hair and black eyes. ''What is this?'' I asked Guardian Ryker as the women stared at me. ''I am Gio, your personal information desk, any information you require can be accessed through me.'' The robotic women said and I had a spine tingle. ''Thank you Gio, please pull up information on Guardian Ryker?'' I asked, not even sure it would work. Ryker looked at me, I smiled at him not meaning too, I wasn't one for playing coy. ''Guardian Ryker: Full Name: Kaden Logan Ryker. Age: Twenty-Two. Date of death on the earthly world: 19 August 2010. Special Ability: Disclosed.'' Gio said and I looked over at him, He pretended as if I was barely there. ''What is your problem?'' I stopped and asked him, he kept on walking with his back facing me. I felt like throwing something at him. He then stopped as if only now noticing I was no longer accompanying him. Turning around to look at me he looked exasperated as if he couldn't wait to be rid of me. ''Ms. Ferox I am doing my job, will you please follow me.'' he said and I crossed my arms. ''No. I know nothing about anything and when I try to get answers you act like I don't exist, I died like an hour ago, I'm in a world I didn't know existed until now, putting my trust in the likes of you. You're the only person I know here and you won't give me any answers!'' I said a bit louder then I intended to. I had been holding my emotions together longer then I thought was possible in theses circumstances I had found myself in, now I felt like a volcano on the verge of eruption. ''That's what Gio is for, any questions you need, ask her.'' He walked over to me and said under his breath. ''Do they do guardian exchanges, I think I would prefer someone else, someone that still has a bit of humanity left in them.'' I looked around and then straight back into those looming brooding eyes of his. My skin felt a blaze under his gaze. ''You need to get chipped, time is of the essence Ms. Ferox.'' He turned back around and started walking again, he left me no choice but to follow him. ''Fine, Kaden. Have it your way.'' His name rolled off my lips as if it had always been there. ''You will address me as Guardian Ryker.'' He said that had gotten a rise out of him. ''Now, why would I do that, KADEN? We seem to have formed a bond.'' I said sarcastically, I finally had something that bothered him.I grinned. It must have been my imagination but I swore I sore a flicker of a smile form at his lips too. It was gone as quick as it had come. I stood in line. Alone. Kaden stood ten feet away from me, he was staring at a wall as if it had a life time of stories to tell him, every now and then I would catch him glance my way. ''Hey, I'm Sarah, Sarah Michel.'' A girl with blonde hair and green eyes turned around and stared at me. ''Avery Ferox,'' I said a bit confused. ''I died Five weeks ago, my guardian says they couldn't find me as I hadn't had the need to use my powers until a day a go when I started a wild fire with my hands.'' I looked at the blabbering girl astonished. I barely knew her and she was telling me her whole life story. ''Well, I died an hour ago,'' I said. This would have been the weirdest conversation if the circumstances were different. ''You are seventeen, right?'' She flicked her hair over her shoulder. ''Yes, How did you know?'' I asked her, suddenly curious to see what information she held. ''My guardian let me off for the day, explaining the way of life here. Every human on earth or "Earthly world" as these people put it all die on their seventeenth birthday.'' I was numb, I looked over at Kaden, and my face must have shown shock. I hadn't known that. Why did I out of everyone here have to be stuck with Kaden? I would have been better off with a rock. ''So what's your power?'' She asked, and I stepped closer to her, I didn't know why but it was as if I knew she would be a friend. Someone I would grow rapidly fond of. I ignored her question I wanted to find out more about the unknown that no one else had tried to inform me of. ''Who's your guardian?" I asked her and she lit up. ''His awesome, his names Cole, his standing over there.'' She pointed to the far right, a man that looked around about Kaden's age smiled in our direction. ''Are you also going to the Gifter academy?'' she asked. ''Yes, do you know anything about it?'' I said well glaring at Kaden, he stared back at me, clenching his jaw... ''It's where we learn about our powers, we will only graduate when we twenty-one, though. What profession are you looking at?' My mind went blank, I recalled the old man in the high chair mention something about choosing a profession. ''No idea, and you?'' ''I was thinking of becoming a guardian, you know fire and all with hardcore fighting sounds awesome.'' Sarah sounded way to enthusiastic, I guess I liked it though. Sarah was then called up before I could ask her anything else. She waved goodbye and then went into a golden cubicle. I waited quietly in line. ''Avery Ferox.'' A computer gleamed from the wall with my name on it. I started walking over to the second cubicle when I noticed a picture of a woman with a crown on. I started thinking about if they had a government. If this lady was some kind of queen to them. There was so much I still had to learn. '' Left hand out please.'' A woman dressed in tight leather from head to toe stood before me. I looked at her hand and found that she was holding a sharp needle. ''What is that for?'' I asked and held my left wrist with my right hand. ''We have to put a chip in you, it is to mark you as a citizen.'' She said to a matter of fact. ''What if I don't want it?'' I asked and took a step back. ''There is no option of that.'' Her lips were too thin. ''Can't you guys keep track of citizens with like, I.D books?'' she laughed at my comment. ''No. once you learn of the dreamers you will understand why. Now will you do this voluntarily or must I fetch your guardian?'' she asked. ''No!'' I shot my hand out towards her. There was no way I would let Kayden come in here. I barely felt the needle be inserted into my skin, once it was over a blue light flashed from under my flesh. And just like that, I was marked. Afterward, I went through towards silver booths, a man sat on a stool and asked me to sit down opposite him. He called himself the ''Assessor'' he had long black hair, and a scar that ran down the side of his face, He smiled. ''Avery Ferox, I see that you are a healer?'' he asked. ''Yes, that's what my guardians says.'' I bit my tongue I would not say more than I had been asked. ''Ms. Ferox, what would you say is more your profession?'' he asked and I looked down at my hands, I did not know the answer to that question. ''I don't know,'' I said, and brushed my hair back with my hand. ''What professions stands out you more? Guardian, Healer, Teacher, Techno or all of the above?'' He asked. My mouth carried away with me before I had a second to think. ''All of the above,'' I said, I had no idea why that came out, I wasn't a teacher, nor a techno or a guardian. I guess I didn't truly know what I wanted to be ''Are you stable?'' He asked and I almost burst out laughing. ''Hum, yes. I think so unless this is all some messed up dream then I think I belong in a mental home.'' I said exasperated, my breath uneven. ''Seeing that you are a healer, we will give you ago at all the professions, people that say all above always end up deciding one career choice after the first three months. I'm sure a healer will be your choosing though as it is your ability.'' I entwined my fingers together. Unease filled my core. ''Sign here please.'' He asked well handing me another projecting tablet. I swiped my finger across it, and just like that, I was done. He gave me another pen that was the same shape as; what my portable information desk Gio looked like and sent me on my way. Kaden stood still in the same spot I had left him in before I had gone into the different rooms. I walked over to him and without talking we started making our way outside the building. I knew I would never get the answeres I needed from him. So I abided my time. All the way till when we got to the Gifters Academy school grounds.
