" Did he say that to you?" I asked, my temper already rising up. But Rose shook her head. " What did he say, then? " I asked. " He didn't say anything. He didn't even pick up his phone. His father picked it up and said to stop disturbing him. And said that he is going to get married. I requested him to give the phone to Isaac. But He said that he is sitting right there and doesn't want to pick up the phone because he is already tired of me. " Rose sniffed. I hugged my best friend as I planned how to take that i***t's head off. I broke the hug and said, " You will be alright, Rose. I promise. And You are the most beautiful and precious girl that anyone will be lucky to have. Isaac doesn't know that. So, it's his loss. You don't have to shed tears for that prick. Let's go out. Let's breathe some fresh air. I think it will make you feel lighter. " I said, brushing her hair with my hands. " Yeah. I don't want to be locked in here anymore. " Rose mumbled. " Yes. Let's go out. Come on. " I said and pulled her with me. " I have to apply some makeup to hide my swollen eye and everything. " Rose stopped and said. " Okay. You do that, and I'll be downstairs. " I said and left her to do the makeup. When I opened the door, I saw Aunt Annie walking towards the room with the slices of pie and juice. "Hey, I brought food. " She sang. " We are going out, Aunt Annie. " I said, closing the door. She frowned. " Why? " " Rose is not feeling well. I think she needs some fresh air. " I said. " Yes. She needs fresh air. I have been telling her that. Okay. But you can eat and wait for her to get ready. " She said. " Okay. " Why not? I love pie. And I will get to plan how to take revenge on that i***t of a man. I smiled and followed Aunt Annie downstairs.
I sat with the plate in my hand. And Aunt Annie went to the kitchen to keep the other one in the freezer. " What happened? Is everything okay? " Emerson asked. EMERSON. Yes. He can do something about it. " Em, I want you to take revenge on Isaac. " I said. "Isn't that Rose's boyfriend?" He frowned. " Yes. That's exactly why. He has broken her heart. That's why she is upset. " I said. " I can't believe it. Rose likes him very much. It's clear in her eyes. " Emerson said, frowning a bit more. I nodded. It is true. Rose really likes Isaac. That's why she is so upset. And now he is getting married to another girl. He didn't even have the decency to tell Rose about that by himself. " What do you want me to do? " He asked. But Aunt Annie entered, so I stopped. After a few minutes, Rose came down, in her jeans and a violet bell sleeve top. Her hair was untied and she wore no jewelry. She is gorgeous. She looked flawless. Everyone loved her in high school not only for her looks but her personality. Everyone wanted to be her friend. But she was always shy around boys. Except for Ashten, which made other boys jealous. She faked a smile and walked towards us. " Have fun, Sweetheart. " Aunt Annie said, smiling. Rose nodded. I got up from the sofa and held her hand. " Come on. Let's go, Bestie. " I said. But before we could walk out, the bell rang. " I got it. " I said and went to open the door. Opening the door, I stilled. When Gustin asked, " Where is she? ", I blinked and couldn't move. " Winter, I need to talk to Rose. Is she okay? " He asked again. That's when Emerson shouted beside me. " The lover boy is here. " He grinned. I turned to him, my eyes widened. Gustin stilled, too. How did he know? It was a question that Gustin and I both wanted to know. But we remembered that we are in Rose's house, and they don't know about damned souls trying to destroy the earth or that I am friends with one. So, I opened the door wide and let Gustin enter. Honestly, I feel bad to keep these secrets from Rose. We never kept secrets. Gustin entered the room, towering over everyone except Emerson. But he is invisible, so he doesn't count. Rose blinked. Twice in a row. Then she opened her mouth to say something but Gustin beat her to it. " Are you okay? " He asked, softly. I noticed Aunt Annie looking back and forth from Gustin to Rose. When Rose nodded, Gustin's tight shoulder relaxed a bit. " Can I talk to you? " He asked. With that same soft and calm tone. He is afraid that he will scare her. Well, he should worry about that. Because Rose always gets scared when he is near. She looked at me. I dipped my chin to let her know that it's okay to talk with him. When she was, sure enough, she nodded. Gustin turned to Aunt Annie and said, " Good evening, Mrs. Lively. " Aunt Annie smiled and said, " You can call me Aunt now. As you have become Rose's friend. " Gustin nodded and returned the smile. " I guess I should go now. Gustin is here. " I said. Rose furrowed her brows and pleaded me with her eyes. I gave her the look that said 'Woman up'. She sighed and nodded. " What are you two doing here? Can you send messages through minds? " Emerson asked from beside me. I ignored him and hugged Aunt Annie. " The pie was delicious as always, Aunt Annie. " I said. " Thank you. And I insist that you visit us more. I am sure Uncle Gerald will get jealous when I tell him you visited us when he wasn't around. " Aunt Annie said, smiling. I chuckled. " Will do. " I nodded. And then walked towards Rose and hugged her. " You will be alright. " I whispered in her ears. She pouted, which probably said, 'Don't leave me alone with this monster.' But I grinned and turned to Gustin. " You better take care of her. " I said quietly. He dipped his chin. Arrogant prick. I shook my head and walked out of the house. Sighing, Emerson asked, " Where to now, Queen? " " Queen? Really? " I asked, raising my brow. " You don't look like a princess to me. " He shrugged. I shook my head, smiling. " To the Park. " I shouted and pointed in the direction of the park. "Do we need to go there in your car? " He asked. " No. But we should take the car there. We can park it there. Let's go. " I said and entered my car. " I didn't compliment this fine lady. It's beautiful. " Emerson said, waving his hand around the car. " Thank you. Maw gifted me this on my nineteenth birthday. " I said. " What did she give you on your eighteenth birthday, then? " He asked. " A beach house. For my own personal use. " I said and started the car. He gaped at me until we reached the park. And then some. I sighed and looked at him. " Won't you get out of the car, Ghost? " I asked. " Heyy... I am not a Ghost. Ghosts are powerless and without magic. While I have SOME magic. " He said, raising his chin. " Courtesy of Jacob. " I said, blatantly. He narrowed his eyes and pressed his lips together. But I got out of the car and walked straight for the bench that I am so accustomed to. " Can we go there? " Emerson asked, jogging beside me. " Where? " " The Beach house. I have seen a beach house. Those are amazing things. I don't think we had beach houses in our time. " He said, looking up at the sky, full of stars. " Sure, we can. After the war. " I said. " Why? Why can't we go now? Just for a little bit. " He pouted. " Because I have to train. " I said. " Wait. You still want to train? Isn't your body still aching from today's training? " He asked, his brows creasing. Why is he confused? Did he think I would quit? Huh. " Yes. But Neil said that if I train every day, the pain will go away, and I will get better at it. I want to get better at it. " I said as I sat on the bench and then sighed. " This is ridiculous. " He said, shaking his head. " Emerson, Why don't you want me to train? " I asked, looking at him. " I want you safe in the house while we fight off the evil souls. " He said as he took place beside me. " I can fight off the evil souls. " I said, shrugging. " But I don't want you to. " He said. " Why? " " Because you are my friend. And I don't want to lose you. " He shouted. " You are not going to lose me, Em. " I said softly. He sighed. I looked at the ground and said, " I quit my job today. " And waited for him to shout at me. Waited for him to say to me that it's wrong and a fool's work. But he didn't say anything. I looked at him and saw him frowning. " Why? I thought you wanted to make perfumes and scented candles for people who are always depressed. " He said. I chuckled lightly. He shrugged, smiling. " Anyways, Why did you leave the job? " He asked. " I guess it is not my dream anymore to make perfumes and scented candles for depressed people. " I said. He just nodded. " Aren't you going to tell me that it's wrong? " I asked. " What does your heart think about this? " He asked instead. " My heart wants something else now. " I said, looking deep into his eyes. He was glowing under the moonlight. " Is this 'something else' your true call? " He asked calmly. " I think so. " I said. " If it's your true call, then the hell with what I think or what others think. If it's your true call, Then stick to it. " He said, surprising me. " You think so? " I asked. " Winter, I have seen people drowning in their fears and drowning in poverty, either because they couldn't find their true call or they couldn't do anything about it. If you have found it, consider yourself lucky, my friend. And run towards it. No matter what anyone says. " He said, with so much passion in his eyes. " What is your true call, Emerson? " I asked. " I didn't get to act on it when I was alive. I wanted to be a famous chef. But I guess it got lost when I started to struggle for money. And now, I think my true call changed. And this time I am going to act on it. Every second. " He said with determination. " What is your true call now? " I asked. " To save humanity. " He said, and my breath got stuck in my throat. " I want to save humanity, too. That's why I left the job. " I said. The smile which always flutters my heart crept into his face, and he said, " Then, we should do it together. " I nodded, smiling. His eyes lowered to my lips, and I almost leaned in, with my heart beating so fast but then, I blinked and came to my right mind. And backed away. I gulped and looked away. "I'm sorry. " He said. " It's okay. It happens. " I muttered. " How many guys have you kissed, Miss. Winter Salvia? " He teased. " One. " I smiled. " Ashten? " He asked. " Yeah. " I said, my cheeks already reddening a bit. " You didn't date after he left? " " No. I was busy. " I shrugged. " Wow. You're a keeper. " He said. I chuckled. " I am lucky I have you as my friend. " He said, fanning himself. " Yes, You are. " I said, smiling and raising my chin. He grinned. " Anyways. I am glad that I have a friend. And more glad that it is you. " He said, with his charming smile. I should stop looking at him like he is some Beautiful model. Ignoring my thoughts, I said, " I am glad, too. That you are my friend. I wouldn't have any other damned soul as my friend, as you are. " I said, smiling. " Thank you, Queen. " He sketched a bow while he was seated. I chuckled and shook my head.
