Chapter 9

Emerson stiffened beside me. I know he is not a human. But I have my senses. I know he is probably doing that. Ashten's eyes after scanning for a while, stayed at me. His black eyes looked into mine. He is going to know if I lie. What should I do? " No one. " I shrugged, then smiled. " No. I heard you talking. " Ashten said, frowning at me. " You were eavesdropping? " I gasped. I am such a dramatic one. I giggled in my mind. " No. No. " Ashten's eyes widened and he shook his hands, motioning that no he did not meant to eavesdrop. I raised my brow. Emerson laughed softly behind me, witnessing the whole scene. Ashten bought it. He thought I am mad at him for eavesdropping. But I know he doesn't do such things. And If I lie, he will sense it. So, I have to act. Sorry, Ashten. But I have to keep Emerson's secret. "I am sorry, winter. I didn't mean to eavesdrop." He said. " It's okay. I was just in a phone call." I showed the phone. Thank Lord that I had my cell beside me. And Ashten couldn't sense the lie because He was stressing about me being angry at him. I don't like people who eavesdrop. So, it is a very sensitive situation. I don't like to do it. But I have to do it. " Winter, Are you mad? " He bit his upper lip. He is stressing. " No, Ash. It's fine. I know you don't do those things. I just was on an important call. And it is meant to be secret. It was a business call. " I said. " No. I didn't heard that much of your conversation. Don't worry. " He tried to smile. I beamed. " Okay. Then you have got nothing to worry about. " I smiled at him and placed my hand over his shoulders. " Come on. Let's get out of here. " I said and tugged him along with me. I looked back at Emerson, he smiled at me, but it wasn't his best smile, it didn't shine his eyes. I shut the door and went with Ashten. I hope he forgives me for leaving him behind.  

Ashten relaxed a bit when we reached downstairs. " You two are missing everything. " Rose shouted, throwing popcorn at us. We chuckled and we sat. " What we're you doing outside my bedroom? I left you all here. " I whispered to Ashten. He stilled but then said with a tight voice. " I wanted to talk to you in private. " Ashten answered. "What? " " Stop. " Rose shouted at us. We shut our mouths. And the zombies attacked a woman. Man, she was fighting them. With a single gun. Then, she ran out of bullets. It was just starting and already I felt giddy. What will happen next?  

The movie was fantastic. Park shin hye is amazing. We just sat there thinking about the movie.And discussed more about it for a while.  

 Then, it was time to get ready and go for a fancy dinner.  

" What will I wear? " Rose whined. " First let's search a fancy restaurant. " Ashten suggested. " Let me search. " I bit my lip and started searching a restaurant. Emerson appeared behind me. I would have jerked and the laptop would have slipped by now but Emerson gave me his grin, that grin which gives me blushes all around my cheeks. I glanced at him and then resumed my searching. Rose and Ashten were talking with each other. I can't do anything. " What ya doin'? " Emerson asked, smiling and peeking at the laptop. " I know a restaurant. It's fancy and entertaining. " He turned to me, and his face was so close to mine, I gulped. " What are you seeing? " Ashten asked. " Nothing. " It turned to my laptop. " Search for Illuminus. " Emerson whispered to me, so so close. I rolled my shoulders and started typing. Illuminus- Restaurant( themed restaurant), where music and dance is provided, with a big floor to shake your body. This is what said for its description. " Don't judge. " Emerson sang. I can't even glare at him. Instead I turned the laptop to Ashten and Rose. " What do you guys think? " I asked, biting my lip, Ashten noticing my action, then his eyes trailed to the laptop. I turned the laptop from Rose towards him. Rose squealed. "This is what we need. " She gushed. " How did you find this place? " Ashten asked. I shrugged. " Do you like it? " I asked. " Yes. It says themed restaurant. That means I get to dress up and show off. " Ashten grinned. He could use some of this. He might find a girl. But that thought made my stomach churn. " What is the theme for tonight? " Rose asked. I looked for the theme. " Kings and Queens. " I said. " That means we have to dress like one of them. One of the Royals. Right? " Ashten asked. " Yes. It says that we have to dress like royals. " " Cool. I have always wanted to be a princess. Winter and Ashten will be The King and The Queen and I will be their Daughter. " Rose laughed. " What are we going to be? " Uncle Gerald came from the bathroom. " Their mother and Father. Former King and Queen. " Rose grinned. " I am glad to be their father instead of yours. " Uncle Gerald sat and his shoulder shook because of his laugh. Rose pouted and her brows furrowed. Ashten and I chuckled from our place. " Don't tease her. " Aunt Annie came downstairs. Uncle Gerald closed his mouth. And It was Rose's turn to feel smug. Then Aunt Annie stopped and said, " Else She will cry. " She mad a crying face and her fists rubbed on her closed eyes. Rose sulked, her shoulders slumped, and she looked at the floor. I rubbed her back. " Come on, Rose. Don't let them into your head. They are just former King and Queen. Old and wrinkled. " I smirked at Uncle and Aunt. Rose chuckled under her breath. " Winter to Rose's rescue. " Ashten shouted, his hand on his head, giving me a salute and he stood from his place. Though when my elbow met his abdomen, he crouched, made an 'oomph' and he flopped on the sofa. I high fived Rose. " Come on. Let's get ready. " I jumped from the bed. " And I will get your dress. I have a spare. It will be right for this night. " I added, smiling when Rose opened her mouth. I saved her the hassle of asking me the question and I save my ear from her whining. Rose clapped and jumped from the sofa. " You will need crowns. I will bring them. " Emerson said, when I turned taking Rose with me. I dipped my chin to let him know that I agree with him. I saw him disappear from the corner of my eye. I looped hands with Rose and we walked up the stairs. I heard Ashten calling a man who probably works for him, to bring him and Uncle and Aunt dresses, which are perfect for the theme of the restaurant, " Kings And Queens. "  

I entered my room and walked to my closet. I have a big wardrobe. Not like the wardrobe in The Chronicles of Narnia but It's wide enough to look like a room. Rose surveyed through the dresses. Five crowns appeared in my jewelry drawers. I turned my head to Rose. She didn't see it. Phew. I held the crowns and called her. " Rose, I have the perfect crowns. " I grinned. " Where did you get those? " She asked, after gasping and rushing to the crowns. " I just wanted to buy some crowns. It's good for decoration. " I lied. Well, it is. I buy some things for decorations. It just seems nice. She picked her tiara and hopped up and down. " Rose, you will break your ankle. Stop. " She stopped but kept grinning at the tiara. " It's so shiny. " She said. " Yes. Because Royal means to have shiny things and wear shiny things. " I chuckled. " Now, the dress. " I walked and stopped in front of a door. I opened it and the room revealed lots and lots of gowns. Silk, chiffon, crêpe, cotton, velvet, Georgette, cotton and muslin, All kinds of fabric, and different colors. Rose slowly walked to the room full of gowns, towards me, wide eyed, and I am pretty sure she wasn't breathing. "Rose? " I called. " I have never seen these gowns before." She said, her voice little louder than a whisper. It's true. I never had rooms for these gowns. Maw just kept it in her secret wardrobe. Hidden from anything and safe from everyone's eye. She had to keep her old gowns, those which she wore to all the exhibitions and parties and stuffs when she wanted to be famous. In her youth. " Some of it were Maw's." I said, my voice quite low. But Rose heard me. So, she pulled me closer to her and hugged me. " Then we are going to honor her gowns by wearing it to the restaurant and let them see real royalty. That is if you want. " Rose said, breaking the hug. I nodded, tears pooling in my eyes, my lips in a thin line. Rose smiled and rubbed my arm. " Everything's going to be okay. " She said. I nodded and inhaled a good amount of air. I exhaled and smiled. " Let's go, pick a dress. " I said and walled towards the section where her gowns were laid. She loved silk and chiffon more than anything. I felt the gowns with my hands as I passed. Rose behind me doing the same thing. I beamed when I saw a creamy white gown with golden embroidery and layered. I hurried to it and picked it up. Rose picked a sapphire gown, with white pearls and small sapphire stones, the bottom of the gown layered with black net. She squealed when she saw her in the mirror with the gown on her hands. We smiled at each other and started getting ready for the night. This is going to be a memorable night. We took some jewelries. These gowns didn't need a necklace, though we wore simple ones, then earrings of glass and sapphire, bracelets matching with the earrings. We will steal the night away. And Everyone in the Restaurant will be amazed by us. My grin was plastered to my mouth. We skipped out of the gown room, holding the jewelries and the gowns. Thank Lord, Emerson isn't here. I don't want him to see me now. I want him to be amazed by us, too. When we will stride down the stairs and his eyes will meet mine. We will steal the night. For sure. But before that we have to get ready. Rose started fussing about her red hair. She seemed afraid to wear the sapphire gown. It will clash with her gown. But I can see it. She will really look like a princess. Like a Royal. So, I told her to shut her mouth and I started with her hair.
