Almost two months passed before Elena came back to class. By the time she got back it was only a few weeks to the end of the first trimester and we were about to start writing end of term sequential exams. She came in at the last minute and still surpassed everyone in grades, like she had never left. When the results came in, I had improved in many all my classes except one, chemistry. I would likely have passed if I tried harder but I didn’t. I had a plan. Immediately the 2 week break was over I came to her with my report. She immediately understood when she looked at the paper. “Shall I do a good deed this term?” she looked up at me and asked. “I could use some kindness.” I replied in a patronizing tone, nodding my head with my eyes shut, which seemed to send her over the edge .
