Chapter 3

Elisa's pov When I opened my eyes I was laying on the cold floor in the middle of the room. I slowly sat up and looked down. I was naked. I looked around the room, at the girls all backed into several corners naked as well. Some of them were hugging their friends for warmth and others were sobbing. I spotted Joanne in the farthest corner. I got up and moved closer to the wall. I hugged my knees to my chest and waited. That was all I could do. Wait. Everyone here was chosen as a player for the hunt. The hunt was something werewolves came up with. They'd send us into the forest and those that survive being killed and bring back plenty of kills would be eligible to be chosen. I'd played the game when I was 15 but it was merely a blur in my memory. The door unlocked and a guard walked in with a bag. "Stand in a line." He commanded. The girls quickly shuffled to their feet, eager to eat but I couldn't care less. "Elisa!" He barked. I grudgingly got up and stood at the back. The guard began his 'search' which basically involved him running his hands over our bodies. This was something they did before the game to make sure no one was cheating even though the main reason was clear. The guard was grinning ear to ear like a Cheshire cat. I stared in disgust at the girls that allowed him to take it far. I knew it was a desperate attempt at survival but I couldn't help but feel disgusted. Soon I was the only one standing. He grinned at me before his left hand rested on my boobs. I wanted to kick his balls but I also wanted to see Ethan and Marie again. I bit the inner of my cheek to control myself. After a while, he pushed the bread and water into my hands and I went back to sit down. I started eating only after the guard left because I was sure I would throw up if I saw his face one more second. *** A week had passed by. A week of feeling the hands of different perverted guards on my body. And now it was time for the hunt game. We were all gathered in front of the forest as we listened to John. "Now everyone, there's been a twist to the game." A twist? John clapped his hands and some of his men walked forward. They placed a bow and arrows at our feet before returning back to their position. "You'll be hunting yourselves" John said cheerfully. I clenched my fist, fear settling in but I refused to let John see it. His eyes met mine. He ran his tongue against his canine and smirked. "The bow and arrows are all you'll need. Your goal is to be the last woman standing. The winner will get a gift." I knew something was terribly wrong all week. From how they let us take clean showers to how our last meal was practically a feast. Not to mention the fact we were standing here in clean clothes. They were preparing to send us off into the afterlife. A few of the other girls got scared and tried to run but they didn't get far. Gunshots fired left and right and their bodies dropped to the ground. I flinched at the lifeless bodies on the ground. John clicked his tongue and held up 2 fingers. "Rule number 1; don't try to run. Rule no 2; if you go beyond the markers in the forest, you're eliminated. Am I clear?" The girls all nodded quickly. John blew the whistle and everyone scampered to pick up their bow and arrows and ran into the forest. I walked into the forest, grateful that they had the little bit of decency to play the game in daylight. I swiftly ducked behind a tree as an arrow flew past me. No doubt from Joanne. I wiped the blood from my cheek where the arrow had grazed me. "I can do this." I muttered to myself. When I was sure no one was waiting to ambush me, I ran for it. I ran till I found a good spot I could hide in. I crouched low, panting. I couldn't kill anyone. I was aware no one liked me but it didn't mean I could kill any of them. Not even Joanne. A branch crunched behind me and I stilled. I gripped the bow and arrow in my hand. I didn't want to kill anyone but I didn't want to die either. The footsteps got closer and soon a head popped out from behind the tree. "Elisa." I looked up to see the girl from the food court. The one I'd grabbed. And her friend who was gripping her arrow tightly behind her. "Jane, we should kill her and keep moving." Her friend- who looked like she might stab me with the arrow- said. The supposed Jane girl turned back to glare at her friend. "Lily! Don't be rude." Lily? Her name was Lily? She definitely didn't look like a lily. Jane turned back to me and slowly sat down. She patted the space beside her and I sat down cautiously. "I'm sorry for what I said in the cafeteria." Jane started. I wanted to tell her that she didn't have to apologize to me. I was used to insults like that. But she hushed me before I could say anything. "Just let me finish please." I nodded my head and she continued. "I was jealous of you. Jealous of your strong will to resist them. You always looked so brave when you stood up to them and it was something I could never do." She fumbled with her hands and I watched as Lily moved over to sit beside her. Lily gathered Jane in her arms as she sobbed When Jane finally pulled away, her eyes were blood shot red and a new determination burned in her eyes. But the next thing she said left my jaw hanging low. "I need you to kill me, Elisa. Kill us."
