Chapter 4

Elisa's pov "What are you saying!" Lily yelled. I flinched at how loud her voice was and hoped no one else had heard it. They were now both standing and slightly glaring at each other. "Jane, don't you get it. We're going to die." Jane said softly. Lily's eyes softened for a moment till they met mine and her glare returned. "Then why should she live. Why is she killing us!" Jane stepped closer to Lily, her voice barely a whisper as the next words came out of her mouth. "Then would you kill me if I asked?" The bow lily had been clutching in her hands- to probably stab me with- fell to the ground. She stared at Jane with a bewildered expression. "You know I can't do that jane." "But it's all I've been asking you for since we came to this hell hole! Every minute here I've been asking you to kill me." She beat her fist against Lily's shoulders. "You've been selfish all this time, Jane. You've been my best friend since I was 5 but you didn't listen to me. I plead for you every night to put me out of this misery. Please Lily I can't do it anymore." Jane sobbed loudly and I could feel my heart breaking for them. Lily didn't say anything else and simply pulled Jane into a hug. They sobbed for a while and even though they were really loud. I couldn't bring myself to separate them. Seeing them together only reminded me of the painful truth. Only one person would survive. Jane turned towards me with a smile and I got up. I shook my head. "Nope, I can't do it. I can't kill you guys." Jane opened her mouth to protest but before she could say anything, Lily's voice broke through. "Grab your arrow." She picked up the arrow she'd dropped and took a few steps back. She pointed the arrow at Jane with a smile. "Pick up your arrow, Jane." "What are you doing?" Jane shrieked. She tried to step closer to her best friend but Lily stepped back. "Do it now." Her voice was ice cold and yet her eyes held a different expression. She turned towards me, "Count to three for us." Jane didn't say anything else as she picked up her arrow with shaky fingers and pointed it at Lily. Lily shot me a glare and I knew that was my time to start. "0" I was trying to give them more time with each other. They both let out sad laughs at that. "1" Their sobs grew harder and soon I felt tears running down my own cheeks. "2." I stared at Jane and Lily who were both smiling at each other now. I wondered if they were communicating with each other through their eyes. I wondered if they had unfinished words they needed to say to each other. And then it happened, Jane ran up to Lily and gave her one last final hug. She whispered something into Lily's ears and pulled back with a smile but Lily was as pale as a ghost. Jane looked at me and nodded. The confirmation to say the next number. I gulped down the lump in my throat. Just why did we have to be in this situation. Another tear streaked down my cheek as my lips finally moved, "3." Only one arrow was shot. I watched as Lily dropped to the floor. A gasp slipped past my lips at the arrow lodged deep into her chest. Jane moved closer to her. "I knew she couldn't kill me" she said quietly. She closed Lily's eyes and flashed me a smile before lodging an arrow deep into her own chest. Another gasp escaped my lips as her lifeless body dropped beside her best friend's own. They looked peaceful. I blinked back the tears as I grabbed my own arrows. And then I walked away to face whatever awaited me. I walked around the forest unsure of where I was going but it was quiet. It sounded like everyone was already dead. And then I heard it. The whistle that confirmed that everyone else was already dead. I was supposed to feel joy but I couldn't bring myself to feel that way. I couldn't bring myself to feel anything and now all I hoped for was that Ethan and Marie were still alive. I slowly made my way out of the forest. Soon, the trees started disappearing and I could make out the buildings. John appeared in front of me as soon as I was out of the forest. He clapped his hands and grinned at me. "I had a feeling you'd survive but someone else did as well." He stepped aside and I froze. Joanne. "Both of you please, come this way. Leave your arrows behind." John said. He was practically beaming with joy as he led us to where we should stand. He clapped his hands together, "Okay. There's enough room for both of you." John stepped aside and someone threw a knife between us. Before I had any chance to react, Joanne lunged for the knife and tackled me to the floor. She clenched the knife in her hand as she used her free one to hit me. She slapped me over and over again and I'm not sure why I let myself get hit but I didn't try to push her off me. She grabbed my hair, causing me to flinch in pain. "I hate you so much, Elisa. I hope you rot in hell. I hope you and Marie both rot in hell." Okay. That's it. "What's your problem with me?!" I spat. I still didn't move my hands to push her off but I met her glare. "Your parents-" Her voice cracked a bit. "They killed my parents. We were there that night. In the forest with your crazy mum. Your parents are the reason my parents got killed!" She yelled. She was panting aggressively in my face. That was why she hated me so much? I wasn't even aware that this happened or the fact that they were there that night. "I f*****g hope you rot in hell and don't you dare die bitch." She lifted the knife and I closed my eyes.
