They strolled through the sprawling gardens, Arran recounting the estate’s history. “Learning vampire customs is fascinating,” she admitted. “But I’m a free spirit, I need to feel the world around me.” “I know,” Arran said, his tone soft. Chloe kicked off her shoes and dashed barefoot into the green maze. Arran chuckled, then bolted after her. He found her dress first, then spotted her in wolf form. She was quick, but he was older, faster. He waited, her dress in hand, as she shifted back in the bushes. “Can I have my dress?” she asked, reaching out. He handed it over, forcing himself to keep his distance. Her scent was intoxicating, but he held himself in check. As they walked back, Chloe turned to him. “Arran, why don’t you have a mate?” His expression darkened. “Betrayal, huh?”
