Chapter Six

Sterling’s POV

I take a deep breath thinking about what I should do. I’m hesitant. I’ve heard he is very dominant and possessive; I don’t know if I can handle that. I don’t like to take crap from anyone. I’ve gotten in trouble occasionally for snapping at the unmated male wolves. I hate the way they look at me like I’m their last meal.

“Please, Sterling, answer me, baby,” he said, moving closer to my face. I don’t even notice but I’m holding my breath, my lungs feel like they are on fire. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes for a second. I feel Enzo resting his forehead against mine. I cannot get over the sparks I’m feeling. He crashes his lips into mine, he is kissing me with desire, I feel his tears fall on my face. I slowly brought my arms around his neck to deepen the kiss. I feel him shiver at my touch; he pulls away. I can’t help but stare into his eyes again,

“You have the most beautiful eyes.” His words sent chills all over my body. I crashed my lips into him. I don’t know what is coming over me. I normally don’t just show affection this way. He slides his hand around my neck, I hear someone clear their throat; I snapped my head back from him. My cheeks are turning red, I feel the heat rush into them. I hide my face in his chest, he starts to laugh.

“Sterling, since your leg is no longer broken and all of your wounds have healed, I would at least like to keep you for one more night since your now awake. Just to monitor you.” Dr. Sneed spoke ever so softly with a smirk on his face. I nodded my head in agreement, I looked up at Enzo. His eyes were clouded over, he must be mindlinking someone.

“I’m going to step out and speak to my father. I believe your mother would like a moment with you.” He pressed his lips to my forehead and got up from my bed. Just as he walked out, my mom was walking in.

“Oh honey, I know we didn’t get to celebrate your birthday, but I did make your favorite.” She spoke while she danced her little happily.

” Oh man, is that snickerdoodle?” I was trying to peak at the tray and looking shyly.

“You’re not supposed to guess!” she sat on the bed and rolled her eyes. I reached over and grabbed a cookie and stuffed it into my mouth. It was so fluffy and tasted amazing. I moaned while stuffing more into my mouth.

“I can’t believe my baby is all grown up now and has her wolf and is mated to the Alpha Enzo,” she said while getting choked up. “If only your father could see you now, he would be so proud.” I rolled my eyes when she mentioned my dad.

“I know, it’s crazy to think I got my mate the same day I gained my wolf. I am even more shocked that it’s him.” I spoke with so much excitement in my voice. I half smirked at her. I turned my head. Sure enough, he was staring at me through the glass speaking with Alpha Stark. My cheeks feel hot, and I turn away, I know my face is bloodshot red. “I can’t believe the person that I’ve had a crush on for so long is my mate. I feel like I’m dreaming,” I said, as I leaned back, daydreaming.

“You’ve had a crush on me, huh?” He made a crooked smirk. He sounded amused. I jolted up embarrassed, I tried to hide my face in my hands. My mother threw her head back and started to laugh. I kicked her with my foot. She gave me a cold stern look. If looks could kill, I would be dead.

She stood up, “I will give you two some alone time, Sterling. Let me know when you want to get your stuff. I’ll help you pack.” Mom answered as she stepped out. I leaned back and closed my eyes, hoping he would forget what he had just heard.

“So, you want to tell me about this crush,” he spoke seductively as he sat on the bed in front of me. His voice was making me weak; I don’t know how long I could keep my guard up.

“There isn’t much to say, you should know how crushes work,” I said while crossing my arms across my chest. He looked at me and furrowed his brows, “Why do I get the feeling you’re a sassy little wolf and I’m going to have my hands full?” his husky voice whispered as he moved closer to me.

“Because I am,” I giggled playfully.

“Where is he? Is he okay? Where is my Enzo,” I heard a girl screaming? What the heck did she just say? Did she just say her Enzo? Sapphire was getting angry; she was growling in my head. I shifted my eyes back to him. He has his hand on his head, he lifts his head up and I see his eyes have darkened a few shades. He looks pissed,

“ENZO! WHERE ARE YOU?” I heard her again. I was about to jump out of my bed hearing that last statement. She appeared in the doorway; there she was with her shoulder-length curly blonde hair; she was about 5”8’. She was wearing a black see-through sheer tank top with a red leather skirt. She had on black stilettos; you could see her bra through her shirt, it was bright red. She has pale light skin with freckles all over. Her face lights up when she sees him. He turns to face her, then I feel her eyes on me.

She was glaring, “What are you doing here Ariel?” he spoke, gritting through his teeth.

“I just got home. I heard you have been in the hospital all week. I wanted to make sure you were okay. Why are you here?” She said with venom in her words.

“I am here with my mate,” he snapped at her while he grabbed my hand.

I pulled it away. I didn’t want him to touch me. Clearly, there was something between them. My blood was starting to boil, Sapphire was getting restless, I was having to give my all to keep her from surfacing.

“What do you mean, MATE? You’ve got to kid me.” She yelled and stomped her feet, man, she is acting like a freaking child.

“No, I am not joking, this is Sterling my Mate, your future Luna.” He spoke with so much annoyance.

“AHHH!!” she threw her hands up in her hair and stomped off.

I knew she was immature and a spoiled brat, but I didn’t think she would act like that. I looked at Enzo; he took a deep breath and put his head on as he sat down.

“You mind telling me what the hell that was about?” I demanded. He looks at me surprised that I just ordered him to tell me.

“Don’t test me. I don’t take well to others trying to order me around. I am an Alpha.” He snapped at me. His voice held so much anger. If I could get out of this bed and walk away, I would leave. I can’t believe him.

“Are you going to tell me or not?” I said sternly.

“She and I usually talk, nothing more. I ended things with her a few months ago. She hasn’t left me alone ever since then. She thinks she and I are still together.” He growled at me.

“Am I supposed to believe that?” I rolled my eyes, looking away.

“Yes, you are!” he commanded me.

I whipped my head around and glared at him, just because he is an alpha doesn’t mean he can be a jerk to me. I got up from bed and stomped to the bathroom. He tried to follow me. I slammed the door shut and locked it. I couldn’t, no, I didn’t want to look at him right now. Sapphire is pacing in my head.

“Dammit Sterling, please open the door.” He said, pounding on the bathroom door.

“No, I don’t want to look at you.” I screamed at the door. I heard him stand there for a moment. The footsteps dragged away,“I’ll be in my office. Let me know when you are ready to talk.” I received a mind link from Enzo. I rolled my eyes and put up a block. He was the last thing I wanted to think about. I walked to the door and peeked out. Sure enough, he was gone. I shut the door quietly and crawled back into bed.

“Rae, do you care to come to see me? I don’t want to be alone right now, bring Everleigh with you please.” there for a moment waiting for her to answer me back.

“Are you okay? We are on our way now.” I huffed thinking about what happened.

“Yes, I’ll tell you both when you get here.” “Okay.” She said back. I played with the blanket waiting for them to arrive. I can’t believe I started to let my guard down.

There was a knock on my door, “hey it’s just us.” Everleigh said while opening the door. They both came in and sat down on the chairs next to my bed.

“Where is Enzo?” Rae questioned me while raising her eyebrows.

“He and I got into an altercation. Ariel showed up early looking for ‘her Enzo’. After she stormed off, he and I went back and forth about it.” I told the girl while rolling my eyes and crossing my arms.

“What do you mean she came looking for ‘her Enzo?’ I don’t understand.” Everleigh was leaning forward to listen.

“He told me that they used to talk,” I muttered out the words. My heart broke as I spoke. I know I sound crazy thinking about his past and being with someone else, but it hurts.

“Has he given you a reason to not believe him?” Everleigh said while sitting on my bed next to me.

“I guess n-.” I started to tell them.

“Then you need to let it go, it’s his past. You can’t hold it against him. If he tells her that she is his mate, she will back off. Just trust him.” Rae said, while Everleigh nodded.

“How am I supposed to trust the pack's man w***e? He doesn't have anything but play games with girls and cheat on them” I shouted.

“I know he doesn’t have the best past; you just have to trust the Moon Goddess; she wouldn’t have paired you with him if it was going to cause you pain and suffering.” Everleigh squeezed my hand while she reassured me. I looked at them and nodded, I let out a deep sigh.

“I guess you’re right, I'd mind linking him and speaking to him. Thank you both. You guys are the best.” I told them both while leaning in and hugging Everleigh.

Rae stood up and wrapped her arms around both of us. I couldn’t ask for better best friends. They both got up and walked out. I was getting ready to go to Enzo but I looked up and saw him standing outside the doorway. I locked eyes with him, he looked like a hot mess. He walks towards the door and stands there for a moment, drops his head, and lets out a deep breath.

“Can I come in?” He asked me while looking down.

“Yes, you may come in,” I spoke while I patted on the bed for him to sit.

“Baby, I had no right to snap at you. I am so sorry. Can you please forgive me? I promise you I haven’t been with Ariel in months. You can ask Zeke if you would like to. Just please don’t reject me.” His voice sounded hurt, he walked towards the bed and took my hand in his.

“I don’t like what happened earlier, but I can’t change it. I know you have a past, and I can’t hold it against you either. That wouldn’t be fair to you,” I said, while I looked into his eyes. His eyes seemed to sparkle as I spoke those last few words. “You have to understand why I am cautious though; you don’t have the best reputation with girls. You are known to cheat and play games with them. I am not some random she-wolf that will let you walk all over me.” I spoke to him while I stared at him.

“I will do whatever it takes to prove myself to you. I only want you, Sterling, you are my life now.” He cooed me. I pressed my forehead to his for a moment and just stood there. He got up and laid on the bed, and wrapped his arms around me. I leaned my head on his chest and listened to his heartbeat. I slowly started to drift off.

Enzo’s POV

Sterling closed her eyes to rest. I heard footsteps walking into the room.

“Son, I’m so happy for you, she is beautiful.” My mother says, resting her hand on my shoulder.

“Thank you, mom, she is perfect, isn’t she?” I could take my eyes away from her.

“She thought I didn’t want her because of her being an Omega.” I muscled out.

“Unfortunately, some wolves do feel and think that way. That’s why your mother and I raised you differently.” My father. That stepping in the doorway. The three of us just stood there in silence, watching her rest.

“Enzo, after she is released, we will need to plan a dinner for the announcement that you have found your mate and the future lunar pack. We will do it when she feels strong enough though.” My mom said with her head resting on my father’s shoulder. I simply nodded in agreement.

“Ariel came here earlier, she caused us to have our first fight.” I said with venom in my words.

“What does she do now? She can never stay out of trouble.” My mother’s eyes were starting to turn black with anger.

“She came yelling looking for ‘her Enzo’ sh- “I tried to speak.

“SHE DID WHAT? I SWEAR ONE OF THESE DAYS I'm GOING TO TEACH HER A LESSON”. My mother was growling, trying to keep her wolf at bay. My mother despises Ariel with a burning passion, which is weird because my mom loves everyone. My father took my mother into his arms to calm her down. I was getting ready to speak when I received a mind link.

“Hey brother, where is everyone?” I received a mind link from my sister.

“Hospital with my mate, mom, and dad are here too.” I put up a block because I knew she would come. She was eager to meet Sterling once she heard that she had found my mate.

“Lacie is coming.” I turned to face my parents. Just then she came running in. Lacie was away on a trip when we got attacked. She called once she heard about me finding my mate.

“Hey everyone, how is she doing?” She asked, stepping towards the bed.

“She is being released tomorrow morning; she is completely healed. Dr. Sneed wanted to keep her one more day though.” My mom chimed in.

“Oh, Enzo, she is beautiful, she is absolutely perfect,” Lacie said with tears in her eyes. I let go of Sterling's hand and walked over and pulled Lacie into a hug. I motioned for us all to step out of the room. I closed the door behind us. Lacie wanted to know everything that happened. I told her everything she was bawling by the time I finished the story. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Sterling having a nightmare in his sleep. She was thrashing in the bed. I ran to my baby girl's side.

“Please stop! No!” She was yelling out. I ran my hand through her hair and on her cheek,

“Sterling baby, wake up, you’re having a nightmare.” I cooed to her. She jerked awake breathless, eyes wide, “Oh my, it was just a nightmare. It felt so real, I was so scared.” She was out of breath.

“I’m right here, it’s not real anymore. Take a deep breath”. I brushed her cheek.

“Please stay beside me,” she spoke with tears in her eyes. She locked eyes with me and let out a deep breath. I got her to calm back down with her head on my chest. She is finally asleep again; I can’t get enough of her honeysuckle and vanilla scent. My eyes start to feel heavy; I slowly drift off to sleep.
