Chapter 11 — War For The Queen Is Actually Crazy

670 Words
“…the war for the Queen has already begun.” Girl. I physically stopped processing information. Like my brain clocked out. Outside— wolves howled. The ground shook. And standing in front of me were THREE terrifying Alpha men acting like I was limited-edition loot. Absolutely embarrassing behavior. Kael pulled me behind him instantly. Protective mode: MAX LEVEL. “You brought your army here?” Kael asked coldly. Darius folded his arms. “I brought protection.” “Looks more like invasion.” Darius smiled. “Depends which side you stand on.” Nah because why were Alpha arguments sounding like divorce court?? The Alpha King stepped between them. “This territory is under crown authority.” Darius looked unimpressed. “Your crown is weak.” Oops. Atmosphere instantly became murder-flavored. The King’s silver eyes glowed. Kael growled. And me? Mentally applying for a refund on this storyline. Suddenly— the bond between me and Kael pulsed violently. Pain shot through my chest. I gasped. Kael turned immediately. “Ava?” His voice changed. Soft again. Dangerously soft. Darius noticed. And girl— that man’s expression darkened FAST. Interesting. Very interesting. “You bonded her,” Darius said quietly. Kael said nothing. Bad sign. Darius laughed once. “No wonder she awakened so violently.” The Alpha King looked annoyed. “This is not the time.” “Oh it absolutely is,” Darius replied. Then— he looked directly at me. And everything inside me went cold. Golden eyes. Ancient power. And something weirdly familiar. “I know who you are,” he said. My stomach dropped. “You do?” He nodded slowly. “You have your mother’s eyes.” Silence. Complete silence. My heartbeat stopped. Kael went rigid. The Alpha King’s face hardened. And I? Emotionally deleted. “My WHAT?” Darius looked almost disappointed. “They never told you.” Oh my God. Oh my GOD. WHY DID EVERYONE KEEP HIDING DLC LORE FROM ME?? Kael stepped forward. “That topic is closed.” Darius ignored him completely. “Your mother was not ordinary, Ava.” I felt sick. “My mother died when I was little.” Darius’ gaze softened strangely. “That is what they wanted you to believe.” Everything froze. Actually froze. My ears rang. The tunnel suddenly felt too small. Too cold. Too real. “No.” The word left me instantly. Nope. Reject. Delete. Kael looked tense. Dangerously tense. “Ava—” “You knew?” I whispered. Silence. The worst silence. Kael’s jaw tightened. And that silence? Yeah. That silence said EVERYTHING. The betrayal hit like a truck. “You knew?” His expression looked painful. “I was trying to protect you.” BRO EVERYBODY USED THAT EXCUSE. I stepped away from him. Immediately the bond burned. Sharp pain. Like invisible chains pulling us together. I hated that. I hated how my body wanted to go back to him anyway. Darius watched carefully. Then his expression shifted. Concern. Actual concern. “She’s destabilizing.” The Alpha King cursed softly. The silver light beneath my skin flickered violently. Pain exploded through me again. I doubled over. Voices screamed inside my head. QUEEN. BLOOD. WAKE. My wolf growled. And suddenly— another memory slammed into me. Not Kael’s. Mine. Dark forest. Moonlight. A woman kneeling before me. Silver hair. Tears in her eyes. Her hands holding my face gently. “You must never trust the crown.” My breathing stopped. She looked exactly like the portrait. Exactly. “My little moon,” she whispered. Then— fire. Screaming. Blood. And a shadow standing over us. Golden eyes. I gasped violently back into reality. The tunnel spun. And my eyes locked onto Darius. Golden eyes. The same eyes. The memory hit me all at once. Fear. Terror. And something worse. Recognition. My voice shook. “You…” The entire tunnel went silent. Darius looked startled. Then I whispered the sentence that made everyone freeze. “I’ve seen you before.”
