I'd thought that whole messy affair was done and over with.
But I never expected what waited for me when I walked into the office on Monday.
My entire desk was piled high with stinky leftover takeout boxes and random junk.
People around me whispered and waited for the drama to unfold.
I stayed calm and decided to pull the security footage to see who had set me up.
The manager stepped right in my way, irritation rolling off her in waves.
"Can't you just stop stirring up trouble for once? You've already ruined the reputation of our entire project department."
My mood dropped straight through the floor.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
She shoved her phone right in my face, the screen so close it brushed my nose.
"Everything's already dragged out into the open, so quit putting on that innocent act! No wonder you refused to lend me the car when I asked. That G-Wagen was never yours to begin with, was it?"
One of Sienna's close colleagues chimed in with a sneer.
"Of course, she couldn't lend it out! What if she accidentally got it dirty? How would Emily deal with her sugar daddy over it, huh?"
The whole room erupted in snickering cackles. Scathing, disgusted stares crashed down on me like sharp pebbles.
I locked my eyes on the screen of the manager's phone, and my face went completely cold with rage.
I'd thought once I broke up with Jonathan, this whole nonsense would finally end.
I never guessed Sienna would have the actual nerve to keep coming after me.
She posted online that the new intern had a shady past.
"I did my digging, and guess what? She used to work at an entertainment company. That place is a total cesspool of all kinds of scum. She's obviously in that line of work, isn't she? How else could she afford that fancy car and those designer bags?
"I've been in PR for years, and this one doesn't fool me for a second!"
Staring at how confidently she spouted her lies, I couldn't help but let out a cold, sharp laugh.
Her so-called digging was half-assed, wasn't it? Did she even bother to check who the legal rep of that entertainment company was?
Sienna kept on analyzing, putting on such a self-important act like she knew everything.
"Look at all the nice clothes and nice stuff she buys. She obviously squeezed enough cash out of her sugar daddy already, and now she's looking for a nice, steady guy to marry. Look, we're all elites at a huge top-tier company here. If she can sink her claws into just one of us, she's set for life!
"First she set her sights on my buddy, Jonathan. He's a rich second gen, and he's also a project supervisor here. I just tried to give my buddy a heads-up out of the kindness of my heart, and she turned around and had a bunch of people call me nonstop to curse me out! She even threatened me, told me to stay the hell away from her boyfriend!"
Commenters rushed to comfort her right away.
A: [This gold-digging manipulator must be panicking! She's scared you'll wake her rich guy up, and he'll dump her, so she's taking her anger out on you.]
B: [Sienna is just being nice, helping us spot this gold-digging manipulator, bros! We can't let her get bullied for this. Out this gold-digger! We can't let trash like her ruin our company's good name!]
Sienna didn't reply until that night. She left a comment.
Sienna: [Oh, hey, come on now. We're both girls, there's no need to go that far. As long as she's willing to change, that's all that matters.]
For all her talk about not wanting to expose me, she still tagged Jonathan directly in the comment section.
Sienna: [You have to be more careful when you date from now on. You need to see who actually cares about you.]
Jonathan was young and handsome, and pretty much everyone in the company knew who he was.
Commenters put two and two together instantly and figured out exactly who this 'gold-digger' was.
Amidst the endless flood of insults thrown my way, Jonathan only replied to Sienna's comment.
Jonathan: [I'm sorry you've had to put up with all this.]
His silent taking of her side slammed into me like a hard, stinging slap right across the face.
