Chapter 11: Community Plant Giveaway Event Day

304 Words
Setting: Front lawn of The Green Thumb Nursery, Saturday morning. Elias hosts his free kid’s seedling giveaway event; Lila volunteers all day to help hand out flyers, assist children picking out small plants, and tidy tables. Mia stops by the event midday to bring them both cold bottled water. A group of young elementary children crowd around Lila’s flyer display, pointing excitedly at her watercolor drawings of sunflowers. Young Girl: Did you draw all these pretty flower pictures on the papers? They’re so colorful and nice! Lila kneels down to the child’s eye level, handing her a tiny sunflower seedling pot. Lila: I painted them just for this plant giveaway, I’m glad you like them! Make sure to water your sunflower every day and it’ll grow tall bright yellow flowers by summer. The little girl runs back to her parents clutching her seedling and flyer, grinning widely. Elias walks over after helping another family, chuckling at Lila’s gentle way with the kids. Elias: You’re a natural with children, Lila. They all light up talking to you about their new plants. I couldn’t have pulled this event off without your help today. Mia joins their conversation, handing Lila a cold water bottle. Mia: Lila’s been here since seven this morning setting up tables and flyers, she hasn’t taken a single break yet. You two make such a wonderful team for this community event. Elias nods in agreement, glancing at Lila with warm platonic appreciation. Elias: She really does bring such a gentle, joyful energy to everything we work on together. I hope we get to collaborate on more neighborhood projects down the line. Lila sips her cold water, watching the laughing children carry seedlings around the lawn, completely happy to spend her weekend supporting Elias’s dream without any hidden romantic agenda weighing on her mind.
