256 Words
The Truth Hurts I felt the chill in his voice before he even spoke. He stared out at the crashing waves, jaw tense. “I knew who you were that night in Vegas.” My chest tightened. “What?” “I didn’t tell you… because I didn’t think you’d agree to anything if you knew.” “You lied to me.” “I never meant to hurt you.” “You ruined my career once. And then you used me again?” “I wanted to fix it,” he said quietly. “Make it right.” I stepped away, tears stinging. “You used my desperation.” “Aria—” “Don’t.” I ran back toward the house, barefoot on sand, heart cracking with every step. Just handed me a blanket and sat with me in silence. “I loved him,” I whispered. “I know.” Later, I scrolled through my gallery—until I found it. A video from Vegas. One I’d forgotten. I pressed play. And heard myself say: “I don’t care if he’s rich. I want to marry him because he makes me feel alive.”
