The Case

Detective Ryan led Emma to the police station's conference room, filled with files and photographs. "This is the third victim in two weeks," Ryan explained, his voice grim. "All victims have this..." He pointed to a photo of a mirrored fragment embedded in the skin. Emma's eyes widened. "What's the connection?" Ryan hesitated. "We're not sure. No witnesses, no motive. Just these... shards." Emma's analytical mind kicked in. "Tell me about the victims." Ryan handed her a file. "All women, mid-twenties to mid-thirties. No apparent connection." As Emma scanned the files, a chill ran down her spine. The victims' profiles eerily mirrored her sister's. "Emma, what's wrong?" Ryan asked, noticing her pale expression. "I need to see the crime scenes," Emma said, her voice firm. Ryan nodded. "I'll arrange it." As they left the station, Emma couldn't shake off the feeling that she was being watched. The mirrored fragment seemed to whisper: "The truth is hidden, but it will surface." Emma stepped out of the police car, onto the rain-soaked pavement. The crime scene's yellow tape flapped in the wind, like a warning. "This is where Sarah Jenkins was found," Detective Ryan said, his voice low. Emma's eyes scanned the area, taking in the details. The victim's body had been removed, but the atmosphere remained heavy. As she examined the site, Emma noticed something peculiar – a small, shattered mirror nearby. "The mirror wasn't here before," Ryan said, following her gaze. "It was found near the victim's hand." Emma's mind whirled. The mirrored fragment, the shattered mirror... What did it mean? Suddenly, a vision hit her – a flash of her sister, Sarah, standing at this very spot. "Emma?" Ryan's voice broke the spell. "I'm fine," Emma lied, her heart racing. As they left the crime scene, Emma knew she had to confront her past. The mirrored fragments were more than just evidence – they were clues to her own sanity.
