Emma arrived at the asylum's east wing, her heart racing. Ryan waited, his expression grim.
"What's here?" Emma asked.
Ryan led her to a hidden room. "Sarah's research lab. We found evidence of Project ECHO."
Emma's eyes widened as she scanned the room:
- Equipment for mind control experiments
- Records of test subjects
- A journal belonging to Sarah
As Emma read Sarah's journal, a chill ran down her spine:
"They're using me to perfect the experiment... I won't let them."
Suddenly, the lights flickered. Emma felt a presence.
"The Reflector," Ryan whispered, drawing his gun.
A figure emerged from the shadows – a young woman with haunted eyes.
"Emily?" Emma gasped. "Sarah's friend?"
Emily's voice trembled. "They took me. Made me part of ECHO."
Emma's instincts kicked in. "We need to get Emily out of here."
Ryan nodded, gun still trained on the shadows.
As they moved, Emily whispered: "They'll find us. They always do."
Emma's determination hardened. "Not this time."
They navigated through abandoned corridors, avoiding detection.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed. The Reflector's presence loomed.
"Split up," Ryan whispered. "Meet at the exit."
Emma grabbed Emily's hand, pulling her through a side door.
They sprinted down a narrow stairway, The Reflector closing in.
A door slammed shut behind them, trapping them.
"Dead end," Emma realized.
Emily's eyes locked onto Emma's. "You have to promise me..."
"Anything," Emma vowed.
"Stop ECHO. Free the others."
Emma's resolve strengthened. "I will."
