Desperation

Emma frantically searched for an exit. The Reflector's presence drew closer. Emily's grip on her hand tightened. "Promise me... you'll expose ECHO." Emma's voice trembled. "I promise." Suddenly, a ventilation shaft creaked open. Ryan's voice whispered from above. "Emma, Emily, up here!" They climbed into the shaft, The Reflector mere feet behind. As they crawled through the narrow space, Emma's phone buzzed. A text from an unknown number: "Meet me at Ravenswood's clock tower. Come alone." The message sent a chill down Emma's spine. Emma's instincts screamed caution, but she couldn't ignore the message. "I have to go," Emma told Ryan and Emily. "Alone." Ryan's expression turned grim. "Be careful." Emma made her way to the clock tower, the town square eerily empty. At the tower's entrance, a figure waited – hooded and faceless. "Who are you?" Emma demanded. The figure stepped forward, revealing a shocking face: Emma's mother, Lucy. "Emma, I've been watching over you," Lucy said, tears streaming down her face. "ECHO's after you. You're the key." Emma reeled, her mind racing. "What do you mean?" Lucy handed Emma a folder. "Your father's research. ECHO wants it. You must destroy it." Emma's mind reeled as she processed her mother's revelation. "Why did you keep this from me?" Emma asked, her voice trembling. Lucy's eyes filled with tears. "To protect you. Your father's research was dangerous. ECHO will stop at nothing to get it." Emma's determination hardened. "I won't let them." As they spoke, footsteps echoed from the shadows. The Reflector emerged, eyes fixed on Emma. "You're coming with me," The Reflector growled. Lucy stepped forward, a small device in her hand. "Run, Emma!" Lucy shouted. The device emitted a blinding flash. Emma sprinted away.
