Chapter 10
Defeated and tired, Aubrey dragged herself into the Local Bean the next morning to grab a much-needed cup of coffee. After her mom called, letting her know her father was back in the hospital, Aubrey couldn’t sleep. She thought about heading to Boston, but her mom assured her there wasn’t much she could do.
When thoughts of her father finally settled down, thoughts of Marco took their place. She had really thought Marco would agree to the article last night, and maybe he would have if she would have just followed through with her promise to keep things professional. She couldn’t help herself, though.
He had fought for her, for them, and maybe he was right. Maybe the fight didn’t matter; at the end of the day they were both still utterly alone.
