Chapter 4
Astrid's POV
After my speech, I went back to my seat but heard a commotion from the front side. I saw my parents fight against the guards because they wanted to see me.
“Take your hands off them.” Ethan's voice was loud and filmed. “Let them be.” He signalled to the guards who retreated.
I ran to my parents who were very happy to see me. Their hands were outstretched to welcome me into their embrace.
“Oh my dear, Astrid, is this really you?” Is this really who you've become?” My mum asked. She was looking old but I could still recognize her touch as she touched my cheek.
My father stood there, tears about to fall, like he was afraid that if he touched me then I'd disappear. I knew they had missed me greatly just like I had missed them too.
After our little reunion, I sent them to the Palace where they were treated like King and a queen, they deserved it. After the events, all the Lunas were expected to go to the Luna's quarters as well as the Alphas to the Alpha's quarters.
Of course, I could have gotten a hotel that would treat my skin better but I chose the Luna's quarters because I was going there for someone in particular.
“Oh my, Luna Astrid. Your skin grows like the morning sun, could you give us your skincare routine?” One of the Lunas asked and I smiled.
“What skincare is better than a mate's love? My king treats me like his queen and that's why skin glows.” It was so obvious that I was directing my comment to Charlotte.
“You know, Luna Astrid. A friend of mine shares the same story with you. Her sister betrayed her just like Luna Charlotte here did.” The second Luna whom I couldn't remember her name said.
Oh my. Charlotte would think I had turned this Lunas against her but that wasn't true, not that I cared what she thought. They were all against her and her mother in law, Sophie who was also there.
“Let's get to the order of the night…” Luna Sophie spoke up finally in order to distract everyone but she was interrupted.
“I'd rather do something else than be here.” One of the Luna made a comment, then stood up to leave and surprisingly, the other Luna followed suit.
I was shocked. We were the only ones there, Charlotte, Sophie and of course, me.
“It seems the other Luna isn't in the mood to speak to you but you can talk to me, let's catch up on old times.”
For the first time, Charlotte looked me in the eyes. “Are you still pained that Kai didn't get married to you? Get over it. It's over between you both.”
I scoffed. “Seriously? Do I look pained? Don't I look ravishing instead?” I laughed and stood up. “Since you both have nothing else to say, I'll go check up on my little princess.”
I left them sitting there as they stared at each other. This was indeed fun and I was enjoying every bit of it. The nursery was where the kids were being kept so they wouldn't interfere with their parents' work.
Immediately, I exited the room, I felt the presence of someone. My wolf was on alert and I knew someone was following me. Whoever the person was, he was fast.
I was getting scared but I decided to confront the person when I turned abruptly.
“Who's there? Come out.” I screamed but I couldn't find anyone. The road I was on was quite lonely so I decided to walk faster. I did and soon, I was at the Nursery.
The hosts of this year Event really did a good job by making provision for the Pups as well. I guess this was the only thing Kai had ever done well in his entire life.
I found out that my princess wasn't sleeping like she should. I mean it was late already and she needed some rest.
“Mummy, did you come alone? Where's Daddy?” She got up from her bed and immediately she saw me. She was such an adorable pup.
“Dad's still working but I promise you'll see him tomorrow. Why aren't you sleeping?” I asked her, laying her in the bed again.
“I was waiting for you and Dad.” She responded.
“Why?” I asked.
“So you could read me a story.” She said and I smiled. She was a smart pup and I was happy she wasn't a pup.
I quietly read her one of her favourite books which was living rent free in my head because I had read it so many times that I could recite it word by word.
“Goodnight baby.” I kissed her goodnight before leaving the nursery.
Before I left the Nursery, I thanked the people in charge, promising to come back to pick her tomorrow as early as possible. They all greeted me, recognising me as the Luna who made a grand return.
When I left the nursery, the feeling came back again. The feeling that I was being followed. I increased my pace hoping the person would go away but he didn't.
When I turned to check, fear creeped in as a strong hand dragged me into a dark room while shutting my mouth from my back.
