Erin took Penelope out of the ballroom and into the hallway. It was lit by candles. Erin was giving support to Penelope by providing him with his shoulder for her, so she could lay her head on. It did not come out of the notice of Erin that Penelope was wearing high heels and she was not going to be walking quickly in them.
Erin could not believe himself for not noticing that she was drinking that much. He blamed himself for having his friend tell him about his betrothed being heavily drunk. He wished that he cared or noticed her more. She was holding him tightly. She was having her choke hold on his arm and her whole body weight was on Erin. He did not complain because she was not heavy at all.
They were both standing by the stairs. He told her to go first. He let his hand rest on her
