Chapter 2: Find Me

The car stood motionless in the middle of the road. Victor's hands were frozen around the steering wheel. The headlights had gone completely dark. For several seconds, there was nothing but silence. Then— Tap. Tap. Tap. Victor's eyes widened. Someone was knocking on the window. He slowly turned his head. Nothing. The road was empty. “Who's there?” No answer. He looked toward the back seat again. Empty. Victor swallowed. He reached for his phone and switched on the flashlight. The light moved across the seats. Nothing. He laughed nervously. “I'm imagining things.” Then his phone screen flickered. A message appeared. YOU TOOK MY LIFE. Victor's blood ran cold. Another message appeared. NOW FIND ME. He immediately dropped the phone. “No…” His breathing became heavier. “This isn't possible.” He picked up the phone again. The messages were gone. Victor stared at the screen. Then he looked toward the back seat. Still nothing. He started the engine. This time, the headlights came on. Victor drove away as quickly as possible. But he didn't notice the faint figure standing in the middle of the road behind him. Amelia watched the car disappear. Her ghostly hands trembled. She couldn't feel the ground beneath her feet. She couldn't feel the cold wind. She couldn't feel anything except fear. Her mind kept returning to one thought. My body. Seraphina had told her that she needed to find it. But where would Victor take it? Amelia looked around. The road stretched endlessly in front of her. She didn't know where she was. She didn't know how far Victor had gone. And most importantly— She didn't know how long she had before her second chance disappeared. “Noah.” The moment she said her brother's name, she remembered the promise she had made. I'll be back soon. She had left him alone. He was probably waiting for her. Amelia closed her eyes. “I have to go home.” She started walking. But after several minutes, she realized something strange. The farther she walked, the less familiar everything became. She reached the city center. People walked past her. Cars passed through her. Nobody noticed her. She tried stopping a woman. “Excuse me!” The woman kept walking. Amelia ran after her. “Please! I need help!” Nothing. Then Amelia saw a police officer. She rushed toward him. “Please!” Her hand passed straight through his shoulder. The officer continued walking. Amelia stared at her hand. Seraphina's words returned to her. You are between life and death. A tear rolled down her cheek. “I'm really dead.” For the first time, she allowed herself to cry. But then she remembered Noah. She wiped her tears. “No.” She couldn't stay there. She had to find her body. She had to return. She had to protect her brother. And she had to make Victor pay. --- Meanwhile, Victor reached an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. He stepped out of the car. He looked around nervously. Nobody was there. He opened the trunk. Amelia's body was inside. Victor stared at her for several seconds. He didn't look frightened anymore. He looked annoyed. “This wouldn't have happened if you had simply listened to me.” He closed the trunk. Then he heard a sound. A woman's voice. “You're lying.” Victor froze. He turned around. “Who's there?” Nothing. He walked around the car. The warehouse was empty. Victor shook his head. “I need sleep.” He opened the trunk again. But his eyes widened. The body was gone. “What?” He searched the trunk. Nothing. His breathing became rapid. “No. No, no, no.” He checked the back seat. Empty. He searched the entire vehicle. Still nothing. Then he noticed something on the ground. A single white flower. Victor stared at it. He slowly bent down. Before he could touch it, his phone rang. He jumped. The caller ID displayed an unknown number. Victor answered. “Hello?” Silence. “Who is this?” A faint whisper came through the phone. “Victor…” His face went pale. He dropped the phone. The call ended. Victor stepped backward. “No.” He grabbed his keys and ran toward the car. But before he could open the door, the warehouse lights suddenly switched on. One after another. Victor stood frozen. At the far end of the warehouse, a shadow moved. “Who's there?” The shadow disappeared. Victor ran. He didn't look back. --- Amelia didn't know what was happening at the warehouse. She was standing outside her apartment. She could see through the window. Noah was sitting on the sofa. He was still wearing his school clothes. His little eyes were fixed on the door. Amelia's heart broke. She rushed inside. “Noah!” Her brother suddenly looked toward her. For one incredible moment, Amelia thought he could see her. But his eyes passed straight through her. He looked toward the door instead. “Amelia?” His voice trembled. Amelia moved closer. “I'm here.” Noah stood. “Where are you?” Amelia reached for him. Her hand passed through his body. She gasped. “Noah…” He suddenly started crying. “She said she would come back.” Amelia fell to her knees. “I'm sorry.” Noah couldn't hear her. “I promised you.” She covered her mouth as she cried. Then something unexpected happened. Noah suddenly looked directly at her. Not through her. At her. “Amelia?” She froze. “Can you see me?” Noah slowly walked closer. He stared at her face. “You look strange.” Amelia's heart stopped. “What do you mean?” Noah touched her hand. This time— He didn't pass through her. Amelia stared at their hands. Noah could touch her. She pulled him into a hug. Her brother's arms wrapped around her. “You came back.” Amelia began crying. “Yes.” “But where were you?” She couldn't tell him the truth. Not yet. “I had to go somewhere.” Noah looked at her carefully. “You're different.” Amelia wiped his tears. “I know.” “Are you going to leave again?” She hugged him tighter. “Never.” A sudden cold wind moved through the room. The lights flickered. Noah looked behind Amelia. “Who's that?” Amelia slowly turned. Nobody was there. “What?” “There was a woman behind you.” Amelia's heart began pounding. “What woman?” Noah pointed toward the hallway. “She was wearing white.” Amelia remembered Seraphina. Her blood ran cold. “Did she say anything?” Noah shook his head. “She just smiled.” Then the lights went out. Noah screamed. Amelia held him tightly. “It's okay.” A woman's voice whispered from somewhere inside the darkness. “Your time is running.” Amelia's eyes widened. “Seraphina?” No answer. The lights returned. The room was empty. But something was sitting on the table. A small silver key. Amelia walked toward it. She picked it up. The moment her fingers touched it, a vision flashed through her mind. Victor. His car. The abandoned warehouse. And a dark underground room. Amelia dropped the key. She knew where her body was. Or at least— She knew where Victor had taken it. “Noah, stay here.” Her brother immediately shook his head. “No!” “I have to go.” “You just came back.” “I'll return.” “Promise?” Amelia knelt before him. “I promise.” Noah looked at her. “Where are you going?” Amelia stood. “To find something that belongs to me.” She walked toward the door. But before she could leave, her phone suddenly rang. She stopped. Her old phone was still inside her bag. Impossible. She slowly pulled it out. The screen displayed an unknown number. Amelia answered. “Hello?” A man's voice whispered: “Amelia?” She froze. Nobody should know she was alive. “Who is this?” The man laughed softly. “You shouldn't have come back.” Amelia's blood turned cold. “Who are you?” The voice became
