“Alana,” Priest said, “based on what we heard from Benedetta, it’s possible that the Paletti Notebook is still in the Medici collection.”
“In Florence?” she asked.
“Yeah. Don’t know for sure, but she said that her records indicate that attempts to dislodge it from the Medici in 1701 were unsuccessful. That’s why we need Rafaela’s help.”
“But don’t we have evidence of Fra Nizza having it, or at least seeing it much later?”
“Yeah, and I’m tempted to pull that string, but we’re still trying to find out how he got it, if in fact he actually had it. Tracing the path of the Notebook might help with that and might also confirm whether the collection stayed intact. There’s a quick flight from here to Florence this afternoon.
