DEREK’S POV
I sat in my car, my heart pounding against my chest as Arielle’s words echoed in my ears. “Leave me alone, Derek!” Her voice had been sharp, filled with anger and hurt. I never meant to upset her, not more than I already had, but it seemed like my mere presence was enough to do just that.
I had wanted to pick her up, to drive her home and make sure she was safe. But now, it seemed like she wanted nothing to do with me. I watched as she walked away, Sarah by her side. They headed down the street, their figures growing smaller with each step.
