47 –––––––– Charlie –––––––– WHEN I WOKE up the next day, it was almost eleven a.m. and I had the kind of hangover that made one want to stop drinking for good. Moaning, I sat up and rubbed my temples. My head throbbed. My stomach was queasy. The night before was a blur of dancing and drinking. “You’re awake.” I looked up and saw Jackie standing by the door with a cup of coffee. “I wish I wasn’t.
