HIS EYES WIDENED. “Why would Jackie call me and tell me that you were using me then?”
My jaw dropped. “What?”
Maddox told me about their conversation and how she’d begged him not to say anything.
“Oh, my God, why would she do that?” I said, horrified.
“You don’t believe me?”
“Yes, I believe you,” I said. There was no reason for him to lie. “I just don’t understand... unless...”
“What?”
“My father is really behind all of this,” I replied, getting angry.
His jaw clenched.
“I mean, why would she come and see me when her mother was having major health issues, anyway?” I began to pace back and forth. “And, what if this was all a setup to begin with?”
